Description: Sound knowledge of GAAP relating to software and service revenue recognition. Ability to identify, document, discuss and address key revenue/audit issues and respective internal control requirements to mitigate revenue risks. Experience managing revenue accounting functions in a fast paced, multi-national, high technology company. Reporting to the Director of Revenue Finance, this position is responsible for the Companys revenue accounting function which covers transactions originated from all geographies (North Americas, EMEA and APAC), and reported by all revenue classifications (Product and/or Software License Revenue, Maintenance & Support, Professional Services and Training). The successful candidate will lead a team of 4 -5 revenue accountants and collaborate with the rest of the Revenue Group members as well as other finance and field functions of the Company to ensure that the Companys revenue is transacted, documented and reported properly and timely pursuant to GAAP in a fast paced high technology company.
Essential Functions:
- Accountable for ensuring revenue accounting monthly/quarterly close functions are performed and completed timely, efficiently and accurately
- Responsible for the accuracy of accounting for revenue reserves resulting from existing contract contingencies, outstanding service delivery, recourse leasing arrangements and other journal entries and respective reconciliations of revenue and deferred revenue accounts
- Re-evaluate the existing revenue accounting processes to be scalable and risk adverse. Build and improve processes to accommodate changes in sales models and offering approach, integration of revenue functions of companies acquired, as well as implementing new GAAP requirements on revenue practices
- As an expert in the analysis and management of VSOE accounting process, this person will oversee the Companys VSOE analysis and related accounting process and reconciliations as well as providing insight to company-wide pricing strategies to ensure that VSOE compliance issues are highlighted early and adequate evidence exists to substantiate the Companys compliance position
- Lead the interaction with internal and external auditors relating to revenue accounting issues. Responsible for SOX compliance for all revenue accounting related controls by continuously working to address revenue risk profile, lead changes, maintain required documentation and coordinate the testing of the revenue cycle
- Provide insight to revenue forecasting to facilitate the Companys ability to execute operational goals and objectives
- Continue to align the revenue accounting functions and staff resource and skills with the Companys focus on scalability. Collaborate with the Revenue Process Transformation Manager towards establishing a framework and system application for decentralized revenue accounting functions
- Work with Corporate Revenue Policy team to align policies, guidelines and collaborate with other functional groups (Legal, Sales Ops, Geo. Finance, Order Admin, IT, etc.) to drive process improvement
