Our client is a rapidly growing specialty biopharmaceutical company with several successful products on the market and an exciting development pipeline.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Medical Science Liaison for the Respiratory therapeutic area. The chosen individual will cover a territory that includes Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, New Mexico.

 

The Medical Science Liaisons support the success of company products by establishing rapport and long-term relationships with opinion leaders whose research, teaching, and publications are considered authoritative and whose opinions are important to the acceptance of new medicines.

The responsibilities of this position include:

§         Identify and prioritize academic physicians and scientists that will be important to the company’s research and commercial efforts.

§         Contact opinion leaders in research and clinical medicine at university medical centers, teaching hospitals, clinics and private practice, as well as the academic faculties of schools of medicine and pharmacy.

§         Provide information on new directions, ideas, practices in patient care and identify unmet medical needs.

§         Establish contacts with drug information centers and continuing education program directors, directors of medical education, national health organizations, patient advocacy groups, academies of medical specialties, and editorial board members of targeted journals.

§         Act as a liaison between national and regional opinion leaders and the company to extend help, provide research and medical information and facilitate initiation of pre-clinical and clinical drug evaluation studies.

§         Interact with healthcare professionals and other Medical Affairs functions to develop educational materials (e.g., disease monographs) for distribution and educational purposes at academic centers.

§         Support field operations through scientific presentations to targeted audiences including managed care organizations.

§         Coordinate projects with Regional Directors, Area Business Managers, and Account Directors to provide leadership and strategies designed to identify, contact, and discuss company data and/or issues impacting the industry.

§         Provide technical support/training for field sales representatives.

 

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

§         Bachelor’s degree in bio/life sciences. Advanced degree preferred.

§         Experience for Medical Liaison I/II includes 3-5 years MSL experience or advanced degree (M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.) and Senior Medical Liaison includes 5-7 years MSL experience

§         Advanced understanding of medical and/or scientific issues and concepts

§         Comprehensive knowledge of clinical and scientific principles

§         Understanding of health economics/outcomes research and interpretation of results

§         Ability to develop and leverage professional networks

§         Strong interpersonal skills

§         Demonstrated effectiveness working independently and collaboratively w/peers and in cross functional teams

§         Monitor and communicate competitive activities and development issues.

§         Advanced presentation and computer skills with demonstrated experience in literature identification and evaluation

§         Demonstrated effectiveness working independently and collaboratively w/peers and in cross functional teams

§         Assist w/didactic and field training of Medical Liaison levels I and II (for Senior Medical Liaison)

§         Requires a high level of initiative and independence.

§         Excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

This position requires significant travel.
