The Materials Manager is responsible for organizing and administering all aspects of materials management for a DOD Research and Development company involved in numerous development, prototyping and low rate production projects. This position will manage the materials staff engaged in planning, scheduling, stock control, shipping and receiving, and monitor the flow of materials through development and subsequent production. The individual will coordinate with engineering, quality, purchasing, government property and other company departments to ensure satisfactory execution of specific program material requirements while remaining compliant with established policies and procedures.
Primary Activities:
• Directs and oversees the material planning, material control and inventory control
functions
• Ensures continuity in the processing of materials received, maintained in
inventory, and shipped
• Develops and implements improved information and reporting systems for
materials management
• Designs, implements, directs, and monitors all processes (ISO9000 standards).
• Develops annual materials department objectives in concert with team and
company goals
• Manages materials department budget
• Motivates and develops subordinates to optimize their performance, as well as
professional and personal growth
• Able to problem solve and provide advice/guidance to facilitate addressing a wide
variety of activities in a dynamic environment.
Requirements:
Minimum of Associate's degree in Business or Industrial Engineering. 15 or more years of overall business experience with at least ten years in materials management. Purchasing experience and knowledge of handling/marking/tracking government property considered a plus. Strong planning, organization and leadership skills. Hands-on working knowledge developing/evolving materials related processes and procedures in accordance with ISO9000 standards. Experience with MS Office applications specifically Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with MRP or other material management software tools a plus. Strong written and oral skills. Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively and in a timely manner with all levels of the organization.
