SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Market Development Manager is responsible for the sales, business development, and management of specific Tier 1 major global customers based in North America. This position will manage projects for securing new business. It provides the opportunity for the development of new products through extensive knowledge of MBI performance products and an understanding of customer technology and processes. This position will be capable of selling complex technical products using interpersonal skills and technical knowledge to develop long term, collaborative relationships with Tier 1 customers. He/she will also have responsibility for understanding customer technology roadmaps as well as developing strategic selling processes through interaction with R&T, Applications, and Marketing. The territory for this position is Maine, Upstate New York and North Carolina. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Has primary accountability for the client relationship at specific Tier 1 accounts. 2. Establishes a collaborative environment that leads to the identification of technology opportunities, the discovery of customer ‘pain’, and the development of new technology materials. 3. Leads a multi functional, team based process for the sale of performance products. 4. Establishes high level customer relationships/intimacy by way of technical and business skills/competencies and situational fluency. 5. Understands current customer processes and applications and communicates customer performance product requirements to R&T, Applications and Marketing. 6. Primary accountability and ownership for development and implementation of selling strategies for performance products at Tier 1 target accounts. 7. Central point of contact for target accounts, manages communication and direction across the Sales organization, and directs major projects and initiatives with key customers. 8. Achieves MBI performance product sales objectives DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ON-GOING FUNCTIONS: 1. Develop and implements sales processes, understands customer technology and application processes, and works jointly with R&T, Applications and Marketing to close major target account performance product opportunities. 2. Provides input on resources needed to meet Tier 1 target account requirements. 3. Maintains policies and procedures in accordance with Tyco standards and local regulations. 4. Demonstrates effective employee relationships built on trust, teamwork and accountability. 5. Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation. Requirements: Education: BS / BA in a Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; MBA a plus. Experience: Five (5) years Industry sales and/or application engineering experience. Extensive sales experience preferred with demonstrated ability to develop high level customer relationships at strategic Tier 1 accounts. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Project Management; Negotiation; Sales; Customer Relationship Management; Business Acumen Skills/Competencies: Process technology knowledge; Management of major accounts; Ability to recognize customer needs and emerging trends.
