Marine Undersea Planning Analyst Morristown, N.J.

Tyco Telecommunications, a business unit of Tyco Electronics and is the world's leading supplier of undersea systems with core competencies in research, development, engineering, manufacturing and deployment. Our systems comprise the underlying infrastructure of the internet. Our heritage is Bell Labs. We are a US manufacturer and major exporter, and we operate a fleet of high tech vessels and robotic tools worldwide.

For more than fifty years our ships have sailed the oceans installing and maintaining undersea systems. Our services include systems engineering, route surveys, undersea and terrestrial installation and maintenance, system recovery and decommissioning, as well as complete shore-end and marine liaison work.

This is a new position for route planning and engineering of undersea fiber optic telecommunications cables at the initial stages of a project. You will both provide support to the Bids and Proposal teams and, after a project is awarded, produce a “desktop study” (DTS) that is the foundation for follow-on detailed engineering planning, design, and implementation.

You will provide the analysis and selection for both cable landing sites and undersea cable routes based on seabed bathymetry, geology, sea bed hazards, fishing and anchoring risk, and consideration of maritime boundaries. Will also determine cable armoring and other cable protection measures, solicit bids, and manage contractors providing input for the DTS.

The position provides an opportunity for both office based route engineering in support of Bids and Proposals and Desktop Studies, as well as international field work to assess landing sites throughout the world.

Need BS or BA degree, preferably in Ocean Science or related area. Requires knowledge of geography, oceanography, geology, basic hydrographic charting and mapping skills, use of computer based Geographic Information System (GIS) software tools or ability to quickly acquire same. Basic knowledge of undersea cable engineering and construction practices desirable. Bi/multi-lingual is a plus as well as international experience.

Interested candidates should submit their resume to jobs@tycotelecom.com with Marine Analyst in the subject line. Please attach your resume as a MS Word document and provide a number for daytime contact.
