This position reports to the Operational Vice President and will have a vast array of responsibilities leveraging operational best practices within our contracting business across all locations within the defined geography. This position will be based in our Northern Operations; relocation assistance can be considered.
LOCATION: USA / Westminster, Boston, Hartford, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland would be considered.
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience. The package includes a competitive base salary + bonus
The Manager of Operations reports directly to the Operational Vice President and supports all local leadership teams throughout the Northern Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
DRIVING OPERATIONS STRATEGIC FOCUS & GOALS
EFFICIENCY & PRODUCTIVITY: Drive behaviors that result in continuous improvement in labor variance and productivity, 90% or better (Downtime: deployment model, safety, headcount, schedule, bench strength, skills, training, etc.). Drive continuous improvement in efficiency (Speed: deployment strategies, overtime, cost per device, skill matrix, right tools, etc.).CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT BEST PRACTICES: Implement and drive existing Six Sigma charters to ensure best practices are in place for our Construction business and deliverable at a local level; eliminate waste, manage large project scope.DRIVE CONSTRUCTION STRATEGY: Understand pipeline, backlog and mix. Construct team to address market, backlog, schedule and skills.SUPPORT GROWTH: Support growth through “lowest responsible cost” on pre-bid review and through change orders.FORECASTING: Ensure a comprehensive understanding of the mechanics that affect revenue for the organization. Support billing and costing WIP meeting and the C@C process.CYCLE TIME: Improve turn rate – Drive engineering best practices associated with manpower, materials, timing, etc.REINFORCE SAFETY: Work with field safety support network to drive behaviors necessary for effective work habits and safe working conditions; understand operational impact of Lost Time, recordable injuries, etc.COMMUNICATION: Document activity, gather all the contract documents, commit to our insertion points on the job (schedule), agree on billing (SOV), clarify disagreement before invoice is entered.PEOPLE: Manage headcount to best efficiency, train, set goals, drive appropriate ownership, engagement and rewards strategies.
DRIVE KEY METRICS
Cost / Schedule Variance: Influence through WIP meeting, pre-bid review, change order management, schedule management, scope control, deployment strategies, training and teamwork across the operation.
Change Order Management: Influence through WIP meeting, contract management, change order management, scope control, training and teamwork across the operation.
Key Financial Metrics: RVI, DMS, DSO, etc and effective influence of key metrics that generate and impact Cash Flow
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS / MBA preferred. Life safety configuration or design background, NICET Level IV preferred (minimum NICET level I).Demonstrated Project Management background with proven field experience managing large projects to conclusion – PMI certification a plus. Working knowledge of Six Sigma best practice implementation – Six Sigma certification a plus (Green Belt or Black Belt). Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience within large matrix organization supporting numerous field based locations. Extensive travel required. Working knowledge of: construction contract terms and conditions, construction risk management concepts and contract dispute resolution techniques.Successful leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to Manage and hold others accountable for achieving results. Able to make difficult decisions, often under time pressure. Leads by example and able to motivate and energize others.Strong change management and execution skills and a demonstrated ability to operate effectively at all levels of an organization. Knowledge, skills and ability to lead and implement change management processes and tools.Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills. Able to listen and communicate effectively with all levels of employees. Seeks win-win solutions and able to influence others toward the appropriate course of action. Comfortable with diverse cultures and a collaborative approach to resolving conflict.Conceptual thinker—able to think through operational and organizational strategies—yet pragmatic in approach. Gets to the root cause quickly and makes sound decisions based on analysis, judgment, wisdom and instinct.Bright, analytical and flexible interpersonal skills. High degree of integrity and strong work ethic. Self motivated, able to work effectively without significant direction.
