Description: Job Summary:
As a Manager of Software Engineering you will manage professional level Engineers within the function. You direct activities of groups of Engineers focused on filesystem performance development, enhancements, maintenance, testing and debugging of WAFL, the filesystem that is at the core of NetApp's competitive advantage. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market.

Essential Functions:
The candidate will be responsible for product planning, project staffing, and project management to achieve timely delivery of projects. The candidate will participate in product line roadmap planning and budgetary planning to support the roadmap. The candidate will lead a world-class file systems engineering team in the design and development of one or more software modules of Network Appliances's high performance file system. The candidate will interact with development teams at other sites for management of collaborative development projects, formulating and communicating best practices, issue escalation and sharing of resources and technology. Specific knowledge of kernel and file systems benchmarking, analysis and performance optimization is a plus, as is experience with process improvement.

Education and Experience:- A minimum of 8 years of experience as an individual contributor and 1 to 5 years as a people manager is required. - A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects is required. Qualifications: Requirements:
- At least 5 years experience in the analysis and performance optimization of operating systems software, file system technology and data storage.
- Must have significant design and implementation experience with UNIX or UNIX-like OS kernels on multi-processor machines.
- Ideally 5 years experience managing successful teams demonstrated by delivery of quality product. The successful candidate will be a strong team player and have a track record of motivating and managing employees and building teams. The candidate must be able to direct work in a group and be prepared to coordinate work with remote organizations. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements and project management.
- A strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.
