ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of this role is to develop and implement legislative and government relations strategies in areas delegated by the Director of Government Relations.
The incumbent will:
-Build and maintain strong relationships with senior political appointees in EPA, FDA, USDA, OMB and the White House to assist in legislative and product support activities, including regulatory changes;
-Assist the Director in representing Bayer CropScience at trade associations including CropLife America (CLA), Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE), and Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO);
-Assist the Director in developing BCS tariff suspension/reduction strategy and proposals and will assist in securing introduction of appropriate legislation to suspend/reduce tariffs;
-Build Congressional support to assist, when needed, the regulatory team’s efforts to obtain new registrations, uses and biotech approvals;
-Assist in the defense of existing registrations and products in close coordination with the Director;
-Identify and track national, regional, and multilateral trade initiatives which impact BCS businesses;
-Develop and maintain contacts with key embassies in coordination with the Director;
-Assist with the government relations strategies with regard to biotech approvals, including, if needed a global strategy;
-Progress to a level of expertise sufficient to represent BCS before Members of Congress, congressional staff, trade associations, federal government employees, and international delegation(s) staff.
QualificationsThe selected candidate will possess:
-Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline;
-Three years of legislative experience working for the U.S. Congress;
-Six years of relevant work experience;
-Strong knowledge of international trade and politics;
-Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications -Bachelor’s degree in Political Science;
-Master’s degree in Business Administration.
