Position Summary

·        Develop a knowledge base of all three modes of transportation (Barge, Rail and Motor Carrier) used by the business unit. Assist Modal Managers in analyzing and determining the most efficient transportation mode of business unit for both inbound and outbound products.  Provide cost-effective, timely & quality transportation of cementitious products in order to maximize region’s profitability

·        Interface with diverse groups – Marketing, Production, Finance, and Distribution personnel at the regional level as well as with plants, terminals, vendors and contractors

·        Assists distribution group in contract negotiations, contract administration, freight analysis and performance metrics. Perform tracking and tracing to insure proper delivery of Lafarge cementitious products. Works with transportation provider to resolve service and invoicing issues.

·        Available in the regional office to provide support for all mode issues. As this is a regional support position, travel will be minimal and limited to trips that address specific transportation issues with the prior approval of the Logistics Manager or Director of Distribution.

·        Provide analysis for monthly performance report and present to the Logistics Group.

·        Maintain a central database of rates and contracts for rail, truck and barge for review by regional management

·        Ability to become an effective negotiator and creative problem solver in utilizing all modes of transportation

Daily Responsibilities

·        Provide transportation costs to Modal Mangers and BU staff for new and existing customers

·        Communicate with barge, truck and motor carriers on annual contracts, and invoice or payment issues.

·        Investigate/perform follow-up on transportation related service failures

·        Understand competitors shipping locations and develop approximate shipping costs for Sales and Marketing, provide histograms as required

·        Assist Modal and plant Purchasing Managers to obtain effective transportation

·        Work with plant shipping coordinators and terminal managers to ensure that truck shipping needs are met.

·        Ensure sales and marketing systems are up to date with carrier information, rates, and routes.

·        Develop an understanding of tariff regulations that is required for all modes of transportation.

·        Develop an understanding of Leased equipment contracts & leases, fleet maintenance management and coordination of transportation activities with an extended group of plants, terminals, sites and facilities comprise a significant base of operations in the region.

·        Develop an understanding of inter-regional transportation issues and communicate with other regions when required

·        Position requires extensive review & knowledge of transportation patterns in the River Region for raw materials at manufacturing plants, finished products from plants to terminals, distribution at the terminal level for cementitious products and administration for contracts in the transportation mode that creates an economical cost.

Education Requirement

·        Bachelors degree, preferably in logistics or Other related business disciplines is required

Experience

·        One to two years of work experience in the distribution and transportation of cementitious or other bulk commodity products

·        General understanding of at least one mode of transportation;

·        Accuracy, timeliness of analysis and reports;

·        effective oral/written communication

·        working knowledge of computer systems, ie Microsoft office suite, enterprise software systems, SAP
