Job Summary:
The Manager, Application Services (Logistics Systems) is a results oriented position, reporting to the director,
Application Services (Logistics Systems). This position is responsible for the overall
Systems Development Life Cycle and maintenance of the logistics and warehouse management
applications software. In this role the Manager, Logistics Systems is responsible for working
with the business to define requirements, design IT solutions, build test scripts, deliver,
and support both package and custom-built solutions. The Manager, Logistics Systems must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as exceptional analytical capabilities. They should be closely aligned with the Logistics organization and as such, must clearly understand and document the necessary business requirements to deliver solutions that ensure compatibility and integration with department strategies and corporate business plans .


Job Responsibilities:

Is the primary liaison to the business unit sponsor(s) for logistics and warehouse management projects and maintains frequent communication with that individual(s) to keep abreast of business needs and priorities. Delivers quality logistics systems and enhancements on-time and on-budget. Provides management and direction for the logistics systems group including setting priorities, coordinating, and the reporting of group activities. Manages the daily activities of the members of the logistics systems group. Plan, design, develop, implement and maintain data management and software engineering processes, methods and tools. Provides technical leadership to the applications development group by being conversant with and cognizant of the future direction of information technology and systems, how that direction will impact the division, and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the division. Directs the troubleshooting and resolution of level two/three application problems and assumes the role of problem manager as required. Evaluates and acquires appropriate data access technology for utilization within the overall information architecture. Directs the evaluation, selection and installation of software design, analysis and engineering tools for the logistics department. Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion. Maintains current application expertise to support rapidly changing technology of computers and telecommunications in the logistics area. Prepares monthly status reports quantitatively reporting results of staff and logistics activities, i.e. metrics that give visibility to performance, utilization, reliability, availability, and budget. Prepare and manage to capital, expense, and project budgets providing cost/benefit analysis as required.

 

Job Requirements:

College graduate with degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred; or a corresponding number of years experience in Information Technology. Must have a strong project management background and/or experience with logistics/warehouse management systems. Strong knowledge of workflow in warehouses and transportation systems. Must have management experience and be able to plan and control projects, budgets, and staff. A minimum of five years experience with developing and delivering business computer applications, with at least five years in a project management role desired. Must have hands-on experience in the applications development process in multiple hardware and software environments. Must have a thorough knowledge of current and future technology solutions in logistics/warehouse management systems. Understanding of Mainframe, ZOS, COBOL preferred Must be able to understand, and clearly relate to other members the business value of application development disciplines such as System Development Life Cycle, version control, and software releases.
