We are currently seeking a Legal Secretary for our corporate office located in downtown Houston, TX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Composing and preparing routine correspondence for signature Preparing recurring weekly report for General Counsel Answering the phone, providing and receiving requested information concerning matters related to the Legal Department Maintaining a calendar for supervisor(s) and assuring that complete information is available for all matters Establishing and maintaining a variety of files and records Making arrangements for meetings and conferences Maintaining control files of matters in progress and following up to ensure that court-ordered actions are completed Making revisions to contracts according to the instructions and direction of the supervisor(s) Submitting monthly expense reports for purchasing card Processing litigation invoices for submission to insurance company or accounting department Preparing all travel arrangements as needed Preparing legal documents, including warrants, complaints, summons, indictments and papers for filing and serving Receiving calls regarding complaints which may be resolved or referred to proper person for resolution Attending meetings and conferences to furnish information and takes notes Assigning work or giving advice to other employees or providing orientation and training to new employees
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree preferred, but will consider high school diploma, GED or equivalent Five (5) or more years experience performing complex and responsible secretarial and/or administrative duties, including three (3) years in a legal office, or an equivalent combination of training and experience Experience working with attorneys or in a legal entity preferred May be required to act as a Notary Public within the government facility Thorough knowledge of operating practices of county government, legal office practices, procedures and documents Good knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation and good transcribing skills Effective verbal and written communication skills Sufficient skill in typing to complete 60 words per minute accurately Ability to establish, maintain and prepare case records and reports Ability to deal effectively with the public and governmental officials at all levels
