Research, development and the deployment of technology for Shell's global exploration and production businesses is managed by Shell’s technology division of Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP). Shell's EP research center, Bellaire Technology Center, is one of the main technology centers for Shell globally, with other EP technology centers in Houston and New Orleans in the U.S. In-house R&D is supported by partnerships with external companies to maintain Shell’s leading edge technology for supply to Shell companies as well as the open market. Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. is currently seeking a LaboratoryChemist for their Houston, Texas location. Responsibilities : Providing support for projects in the Chemical Theme – EPT-Solutions Collecting data in support of projects, buying and installing new equipment, and documenting laboratory procedures Performing daily testing and laboratory support functions and assisting all site personnel with special projects as needed and assigned Working with high pressure equipment Building and maintaining equipment Conducting flow experiments Maintaining pumps Key Accountabilities Budget tracking for the Chemical laboratory activities Calculating chemical concentrations, volumes, and weights of various complex mixtures and translate this into a work plan for supporting technicians Design, draw, construct and write up operation manuals for various core flood flow experiments Adhering to and actively supports corporate Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) policies Identifying, reporting and participating in recommended corrective action on safety and environmental problems Providing input and assisting in implementation for improving safety and environment for laboratory procedures and materials Participating in HSSE audits, site meetings, and group discussions Performing daily testing and laboratory support functions Assessing workload and adjust time to complete work within timelines needed to meet project demands Working with all site staff as needed to support various projects Demonstrating positive teamwork, assisting fellow team members in completing work when necessary to meet deadlines Assisting in writing procedures and work instructions for laboratory testing Performing porous media displacement experiments Operating titrator to evaluate chemical breakthroughs of displacements Performing chemical analysis of static bottle tests designed to determine the consumption of alkali by reservoir sands Performing chemical analysis of static bottle tests designed to determine the amount of surfactant adsorption by reservoir sands Assembling new equipment to extend laboratory capability; displacement experimental set-ups including installation of pumps, back-pressure regulators, pressure transducers, and flow lines Maintaining chemical inventories Improve knowledge and skills through training Requirements : Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer Bachelors Degree in Chemistry (Masters Degree preferred) or a minimum of 5 years experience in a related field. You must also have good organizational and time management skills as well as the ability and desire to learn new skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple deadlines and rapidly changing priorities Ability to take direction from multiple sources, and manage time to meet daily testing needs as well as satisfy longer term commitments to project support Ability to multi-task is essential for success in this position Should be very detail oriented Good documentation skills, including written and oral communication is necessary. Must demonstrate good teamwork Should show a commitment to best laboratory practices, a mechanical aptitude, and computer skills in instrumentation software, and Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel Must show a commitment to maintaining a safe workplace
