The contractor shall: ' Facilitate inquiries from reporters, identifying message opportunities, following SOPs and supporting spokespeople in close coordination with team. ' Suggest, identify, and develop proactive story ideas that support NIAID messages and program priorities. ' Translate technical and scientific subject matter into clear and concise text. ' Ensure that written content is clear, consistent with NIAID style, and free of bureaucratic or overly dense language. ' Develop and edit content for NIAID print publications, Web pages, and intranet. ' Perform extensive background research by interviewing NIAID employees or grantees and by reviewing existing documentation. ' Keep apprised of events and media coverage related to infectious diseases, biodefense, and ongoing NIAID/NIH research. ' Make recommendations to project leads on editorial or communications issues. ' Handle and/or assist in special writing assignments. ' Research and track reports covering infectious diseases and biodefense. ' Work products and documents related to facilitating inquiries from reporters, identifying message opportunities, and following SOPs. ' Work products and documents related to suggesting, indentifying, and developing proactive story ideas that support NIAID messages and priorities. ' Work products and documents related to translating technical and scientific subject matter into clear and concise text. ' Work products and documents related to developing and editing content for NIAID print publications, Web pages, and intranet. ' Work products and documents related to keeping apprised of events and media coverage related to infectious diseases, biodefense, and ongoing NIAID/NIH research. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER EXPERTISE REQUIRED. The contractor must have: ' Minimum of five years of specialized experience in writing and editing a range of high-quality materials for print and electronic publications. ' Knowledge of and skill in journalistic-style media writing. Specific work experience involving health related topics for dissemination to the general public and/or specialized audiences; wrote or edited newsletters or other publications while working in a press office ' Specific experience in media/press relations (participated in news conferences or media briefings; developed or participated in the development of news releases; prepared written responses to media requests for information; interacted with health and science reporters, etc) Experience preparing backgrounders, talking points and advice/support for spokespeople ' Demonstrated experience in writing user-friendly communications for a scientific or related organization ' Extreme attention to detail ' Ability to work well with others ' Willingness to take initiative and work independently ' Bachelors degree in Journalism, English, or related field ' Proficiency in Microsoft Office
