Leads the definition of technical strategy, standards, configurations & ensures feasibility. Consultant to Global Service Organization (GSO) & Global Business Systems (BSG) organizations to define job content & skill sets to support technical infrastructure. Tightly Integrated with GSO & BSG to validate relevance of plans.
SPECIFIC SUMMARY RELATED TO STORAGE - includes the following...
Storage architecture and configuration of disk subsystems in general; management, discovery and analysis tools for storage systems; EMC and other vendors SAN, supporting switches, and other SAN fabric components. Deliverables include recommendations for the new datacenter mapping of storage, implementation of the mapping, as well as backup and restore. Additionally, recommendations for new storage may need to occur if the existing storage cannot be utilized throughout the Migration, and cannot meet the technical requirements for the consolidated/virtualized environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Experienced technical candidate with a storage focus who can provide discovery and analysis skills in the storage area in conjunction with data center consolidation and virtualization efforts.
- This candidate should have implementation/solution design knowledge of DAS, NAS, and SAN storage devices with a focus on EMC storage products. Additional requirements include tape storage devices, connectivity components including Fibre channel switches and SAN extension devices. Additional desirable skills include storage classification, capacity and performance analysis.
- Must be able to analysis of the storage requirements of the server landscape, develop storage architecture to support both physical and virtual environments, develop project plans for consolidation and virtualization, and provide gap analysis on storage needs vs. current storage environment.
- Must be able to deploy discovery and analysis toolsets that scan the server and storage infrastructure and provide storage-related artifacts for subsequent analysis.
- Must be familiar with SAN storage requirements for Microsoft, Linux, and Unix operating systems. EMC and STK storage systems knowledge is a plus.
- Posses a firm knowledge of switch fabrics and backup devices that support disk storage systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
IT Architecture Strategy and Direction
•Know and understand Jabil business strategy
•Know and understand Jabil IT strategy & objectives
•Definition of technical roadmap, ensuring match with Jabil business & IT Strategy
•Provide integrated hardware / software platform definition. Both components should compliment each other
•The architecture roadmap should one or multiple of the following:
oReturn on investment / Reduce operating costs - initiatives that derive a positive ROI for the company or reduce operating costs
oRevenue protection & growth – initiatives that provide Jabil with a competitive advantage
oService Reliability – initiatives that increase the reliability (uptime) of IT services
oIncrease response – initiatives that increase the response time of IT services
oEnhance User experience – initiatives that provide increased functionality, easier to use
oIT Efficiencies – initiatives that drive increase efficiencies of the IT GSO & BSG staff
•Provide regular updates to Global IT on execution of strategy
•Take feedback from Global IT to influence architecture strategy
Solution Development
•Technical platform definition – make, model, configurations, integration elements
•Prototype solution prior to full implementation. Prototype should serve as a proof of concept
•Ensure Service Quality Assurance & Engineering of solution
•Initial commissioning of solution into production
•Achieve sign off from GSO, PG & BSG to transition technology to support
Definition of Management Practices
•Ensure that the architect is not a single point of failure through documentation and training of GSO & BSG staff
•Definition of processes & methods to support technical infrastructure in production
•Definition of headcount sizing methodology
•Definition of management tools to support production environment
•Documentation of technical platform – configurations, FAQ, CMDB
Continuous Improvement
•Identify & provide guidance on pain points within the GSO & BSG.
•Closely aligned with GSO problem management team to identify trends
•Perform root cause analysis and remediation actions. These remediation actions could result in a project for the architecture team
•Identify “ways of working” to increase the productivity & efficiency of the GSO & BSG teams.
•Partner with GSO & BSG management to drive changes into production
Policy & Procedures
•Define technical policy & procedures. Achieve sign off from BSG & GSO Management
•Comply with IT policy, procedures & process.
•Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
•Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.
Training & Development
•Define technical job content & qualifications of key roles required to support technical infrastructure
•Work closely with GSO & BSG Management to assess and aid to develop staff skill sets
•Where required assist GSO & BSG Management to assess and help resolve staffing knowledge gaps
Communication
•Provide weekly communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the department.
•Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.
•Ask questions; encourage input from staff.
•Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.
JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems OR equivalent education and training AND 8 to 10 years experience in an enterprise level organization ($5B plus in size, multiple geographical locations).
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Solid understanding of all components & interrelationships of a technology architecture - desktop devices, networking/telecom, server, storage, relational database, application, software development.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Customer service skills as well as effective communication skills – both verbal and written. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Training and knowledge of Jabil’s software packages in an integrated system such as SAP. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Individual will be required to use computer keyboards or other equipment for extended periods of time. Individual may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision for reading and studying technical materials and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of the time. Specific physical abilities required by the job may include walking, reaching carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs, with some occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Individual’s primary workstation is located in the office area, with some time spent on the manufacturing floor. The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to moderate.
