The Department of Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, and Epidemiology (DBBE) is currently developing and applying parallel computing hardware and software to computationally intensive problems in statistics, bioinformatics, and computational biology. A small computing cluster has been assembled and plans for a larger network are being developed. The department is searching for a talented developer/administrator to manage the departmental high performance computing cluster.

Responsibilities include: Under limited supervision, provide support for the DBBE Linux infrastructure to include administration and development of computational cluster hardware and associated software and related de-partmental Linux systems.
Specific Duties: Support, monitor, test, investigate, program, and resolve problems associated with the Linux infrastructure, software, and database support function of DBBE and its partners. Consult with researchers and programmers regarding parallel computing, connectivity, program and database design including but not limited to coordinating and maintaining servers and residing databases. Provide guidance to assigned faculty, staff, and students in support of the IT manager. Coordinate implementation and maintenance of Linux hardware and software. Monitor and support the Linux servers. Test and evaluate new and updated products (hardware and software) and give product presentations and documentation. Give advice to managers regarding internal and external security issues and assist with establishing security policies and procedures regarding user connections to department hardware. Attend meetings with user agencies regarding HPCC and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements include: Associate's degree and two years experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, the design and development of system software or the testing and debugging of system software. A bachelor's degree in computer science or management information systems may be substituted for the required work experience. Please see the online posting for additional information /requirements.
