Inventory Control Buyer / Planner — Men's Apparel
Sunderland, Vermont
Company Interfaces
The position reports directly to the Inventory Control Manager, located in Sunderland, Vermont. The control buyer position interfaces internally with the Inventory Control Manager and Inventory team, Sourcing, Merchandising, Retail Inventory Specialists, as well as the Roanoke VA Fulfillment Operations (Receiving, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, Accounts Payable) and UK Inventory Management Staff. The position also has significant external interaction with our vendor base.
Key Performance Measurements
This position is evaluated on the ability to maintain the most profitable ratio relationship of order fulfillment (service level %), inventory turn and distressed inventory levels.
General Responsibilities
(1) Preseason Forecasting/Planning:
Establish inventory needs for all channels (catalog, web, retail stores, dealer network and international) to ensure that product availability will match current demand and evolving trends. Prior to each selling season, the control buyer is responsible for several key elements that include; creating forecasts and commitments that are balanced with seasonal buy strategies.
Placement and execution of all initial item purchase orders must have most effective placement to ensure timely delivery via the most cost effective shipping method.
(2) Item setup and ordering:
Participate and play a key role in the accuracy of item setup and ordering. Review item for proper set-up including style, size, color, cost, and placement assuring Orvis protocol is met by each channel, follow through by proofing catalog copy for accuracy of assigned prefix code, item number, color/pattern, size, and retail price.
A control buyer is responsible for the confirmation of shipments working closely with QAD and receiving to monitor goods for quality and quantity, and to communicate with the vendor concerning Vendor Compliance guidelines.
3) In season monitoring and re-orders:
The control buyer regularly reviews product performance in season to monitor demand, inventory levels, on hand, on order, and reorder/cancellations as indicated by open-to-buy and forward coverage models using the disciplines, tools and reports established within our Inventory Workbench software system. Upon recognition of trends, action must be taken to modify future forecasts to reflect item success or failure. The control buyer is responsible for determining the item’s disposition; this may result in the placement of re-orders, or the discontinuing and/or discounting of stock.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a results-oriented individual with strong numerical, mathematical and negotiation skills. Must be highly analytical, detail oriented and have excellent judgment and decision making ability. Possessing excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadline is a must. BA/BS degree in business related field, plus 3 years experience in a related field.
