National Interstate is currently seeking an entry-level Commercial P&C Insurance Underwriter Trainee for our Crossroads General Agency office (a National Interstate Insurance Company affiliate) located within the North Atlanta suburb of Duluth, GA.
Summary
Our Underwriters are responsible for reviewing and analyzing public transportation insurance submissions to assess risk and build profitable book of business in addition to marketing and growing the top line. Our ideal candidate will possess a good mix of analytical and marketing skills, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude.
Main responsibilities include:
· Review and price commercial fleet auto insurance submissions.
· Actively market the company’s products to generate new business opportunities.
· Involves analyzing risk information reports such as loss control reports and motor vehicle records, utilizing pricing models and industry knowledge to determine policy prices.
· Also analyze and interpret information within applications, loss run reports, insurance policies, procedural manuals and financial statements.
· Negotiates with brokers on pricing, coverage, and program structure to write profitable business for the company.
· Educate brokers on company policies regarding underwriting, claims and loss control.
· Monitor assigned accounts and periodically review critical underwriting information and performance against expected losses.
· Prepare routine reports and correspondence.
· Handle special projects, as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications we’re looking for:
· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with insurance related coursework
· Recent Grad with relevant internship/work experience in the insurance or financial industry
OR 1-3 years related experience and/or training including progressively responsible P & C insurance experience
· Advanced PC skills, including competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
· Insurance related continuing education a plus (i.e. CPCU, ARM)
· Excellent communication skills and interact professionally with brokers, customers and employees of the company.
· Demonstrated analytical & quantitative ability required
· Georgia P & C License preferred or to be obtained within first 90 days of employment
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, computerized data, and procedure manuals
· Ability to market and produce qualified submissions for company’s Alternative Risk Transfer products
· Ability to handle light travel
