Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Our Advanced Materials Application (AMA) group within the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering product line specializes in synthesis, formulation and processing, testing and evaluation of polymeric, ceramic and metallic materials. AMA is seeking an Inorganic Chemist in Columbus, OH for full time, regular shift work. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package will be provided. Relocation support is available.

Position Responsibilities

Research focused on material development specifically related to the use of:
- inorganic or hybrid inorganic-organic materials
- nanoparticles and nanostructures for applications in supercapacitors, batteries, thin film photovoltaics, and advanced materials.
Successful candidate will be required to design and/or conduct experiments under the supervision of more senior staff.

Experiments will involve the synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials and nanostructures, including the use of air-free synthesis methods.

Understanding the structure/property relationship of materials and having good laboratory skills is critical to success in this position.

Consolidate literature information into reports and to gather information through phone calls, web searches and library work
- use data to develop analysis of physical systems and come to fact-based conclusions,
- be innovative and develop/formulate new materials or systems in the research areas of interest

Work effectively in a team environment,

Provide technical leadership in projects, as required,

Handle multiple tasks with tight budgets, timelines and deliverables, and

Interface with clients, as needed.

Strong writing and communication skills are essential.

Required Qualifications

- PhD degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other closely related physical science.
- MS degree with 5 or more years with relevant industrial experience in materials research and development could be considered an equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances
