Infrastructure Architect ENGINEERING YOUR CAREER SUCCESS
THE JOB—WHAT IT IS: Key responsibility of the infrastructure architect is to analyze, plan, design and oversee implementation and management of the organizations infrastructure systems, network and storage to ensure high levels of data integrity and availability This position will develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent provisioning and uptime. Essential Functions and Duties • Responsible for establishing infrastructure that support seamlessly the major service areas of Development, Operations and the Lines of Service • Manage investment to optimize price versus performance while maximizing architectural qualities of effective and efficient management, resilient, reliable and scalable environments • Concerned with the physical network, servers, desktop, storage, management and operations, security and systemic qualities of the platforms that solutions are delivered on • Participate in development of storage and storage availability and storage availability planning with an over all goal of over-arching master data storage architecture • Identify key issues and limitations of the existing architecture and develop long term target architectures and plans • Define data backup, recovery and disaster recovery as well as archiving strategies based on business requirements and retention policy • Evaluate existing or emerging technologies for applicability to the overall enterprise architecture • Assess business and application requirements for corporate data networks • Responsible to planning, designing and upgrading network installation.. • Develop a network architecture which will include redundancy, version control, vital defense systems while reducing operational costs • Influence application portfolio decisions • Maintain a bias toward standardization for value not simply technology oneness • Be a driver for proper uses of technology inside the company • Provide a transparent and structured taxonomy • View technology architecture with a driver of service level agreements. • Maintain an accurate record of hours spent on Work Orders and projects
THE PERSON—WHAT IT TAKES: • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience supporting engineering, design and building information technology solutions for the infrastructure. • A minimum BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field. • Desire a Masters in Computer Science with emphasis on Architecture or MS in Systems Engineering • Certifications from Cisco, Microsoft. required Essential Skills and Abilities • Strategic thinking, leadership and relationship management skills. • Strong operations and support background. • Strong project management skills. • Firm knowledge of EMC architecture, Virtual Tape and Disk Storage. • Working knowledge, recognize the importance of, ITIL as it applies to the Infrastructure • Abstract thinking • Communication skills both verbal and written is a large requirement • Understand regulation, programmatic and process skills • Good collaborator is a fundamental to success • Experience gained over many years and a strong track record of successful infrastructure projects • Experience and design using fiber channel, SCSI, RAID to meet operating requirements • Experience with multiple operating systems, Windows, Linux, VMWare • Experience in Data modeling, data management and relational data bases, Oracle, SQL Server • Experience in network design, management, switching, routing. LAN/WAN, VLAN, VPN, Cisco • Extensive exposure to application development life cycle, working knowledge of SOA, application architecture and its impact on infrastructure, use of .Net, J2EE • Line management experience • Good tactical skills in conjunction with strategic skills • Experience with cost modeling • Experience with server hardware design, architecture and utilization characteristics
