Description: Monitors the Information Security work request and incident queue through a computerized tracking system and assumes (or delegates to other team members) responsibility for incoming requests. Provides first level monitoring, analysis, and response to information security intrusion events (including IDS, vulnerability scanning, service performance and availability, and virus alerts).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The engineer will utilize a number of tools and systems to identify the parties responsible for computer systems known or suspected to be compromised, and to enforce secure configuration of operating systems and applications following virus remediation.
Monitors and manages incoming work and incident requests.
He/she will be responsible for contacting system owners, administrators, and users to facilitate virus remediation including removal of infection, system rebuilds, and system hardening.
Other first-level support tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned depending on the incident response and remediation workload. Examples include firewall, VPN, IDS, and AAA systems management.
Occasional after hours and weekend work may be required in order to perform tasks that cannot be done during business hours. The engineer will be expected to participate in the Information Security on call rotation, and will carry a pager and/or cell phone 24x7.
Complies with all Information Security services, policies, and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience.
2-5 years experience with networking and internetworking devices and software. Experience with large mission-critical internetworks required.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Experience with other operating systems (e.g., MacOS and Linux) and security infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, VPN, IDS, network scanners, etc.) a plus.
Must have good communication skills, the ability to learn and be self-directed, independent, diligent in regards to creating and maintaining detailed computer incident logs, and dependable in regards to providing regular status reports.
Must demonstrate an ability to function as a member of the Information Security team, and to work collaboratively with multiple institutions, departments, and individual users (both technical and non-technical) across multiple facilities.
