American Funds (AFD) has recently formed a new Individual Investor Product Team. The team focuses on 3 primary areas: 1) College Savings products, specifically AFD's 529 plan CollegeAmerica 2) Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) 3) Retirement income planning and management The Individual Investor Product Specialist will be part of the newly formed product team. This position will have responsibility in the following areas: • Ongoing project coordination and execution for the sales, marketing, servicing and pricing components of CollegeAmerica and Individual Retirement Accounts, including rollovers o Sales and marketing: The product specialist will work closely with the sales force and Marketing team to develop and execute sales and marketing programs. The product specialist will also be responsible for contributing to and reviewing all CollegeAmerica and IRA-related sales and marketing materials. o Servicing and Pricing: The product specialist will help to coordinate any servicing, operations, or pricing related projects as needed. • Developing subject-matter-expertise on CollegeAmerica and IRAs: The product specialist will serve as a key point-of contact and product subject matter expert to various business areas on CollegeAmerica and IRAs. • Working with internal reporting and analysis resources to develop and deliver business reports • Research and analysis: The product specialist will conduct industry and AFD research and present findings on issues related to education savings, IRAs and rollovers, and retirement income planning and management. • Coordination and execution of other projects as they arise. Examples include: o Supporting certain education and training initiatives focused on delivering retirement planning and income management content and tools to financial advisers. o Coordinating with the Web team to manage projects related to investment assessment and portfolio tools available to financial advisers. The product specialist will interact with many internal constituents including Marketing, Marketing Research, Business Intelligence, Web, Communications, Dealer Relations, Information Technology, sales force, service centers, and other Capital Group entities such as American Funds Service Company and Capital Bank & Trust. This position may also interact with external constituents such as financial advisers, broker/dealer home office contacts, third party administrators, and a variety of third party product/service providers. Qualifications - Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with a broad range of associates/departments across the organization. - Solid project management and organizational skills - detail orientation is essential. - The ability to communicate and present findings and recommendations clearly/simply both orally and in writing to team members and senior management. - Strong interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships. - Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. - IRA and 529 product knowledge / experience a plus.
