Position Summary

Responsible for oversight of the day-to-day activities of Compensation and Payroll Human Resources functions for TCF Minnesota. Assures that the department attains or exceeds specific planned goals while maintaining a high level of customer service.

Major Areas of Accountability

 A. Carries out established objectives, strategies and performance goals for the department in order to actively influence and promote increased value to the organization through the effectiveness of the Human Resource function.

B. Manages all activities of the department. Includes setting priorities, monitoring performance, adjusting procedures and motivating staff to achieve an optimal work environment.

C. Continuously reviews and evaluates processes within the department to achieve the most efficient methods of operation.

D. Actively participates in the research, design and implementation of a variety of system-related projects, as appropriate.

E. Ensures that staff is trained in various policies, procedures, federal and state laws and regulations; ensures the department is in compliance.

F. Manages Human Resources function in coordination with Retail, Operations, Legal and other Corporate and Bank Divisions. Interfaces with other departments regarding issues/interests.

G. Oversees personnel functions, including staffing, training, performance reviews, disciplinary action and other issues that may arise.

H. Effectively manage the department functions while meeting and adhering to corporate, legal, and regulatory policies, guidelines, and requirements regarding compliance. Work with the Compliance and Legal departments for overall updates, procedure changes or development, and resolution of issues.

Additional Responsibilities Specific to this Position:

 I. Direct supervision of Compensation and Payroll staff

J. Ensures that Compensation and Bank Payroll processes are effective and department business needs are being met

K. Assures that TCF managers and supervisors comply with compensation and payroll guidelines. Escalate as necessary to appropriate senior management.

L. Ensures the training and development of compensation and payroll departments with respect to applicable laws and company policies and procedures.

M. Coordinates applicable projects relating to compensation and/or payroll.

N. Assists in the development of job descriptions for existing and new positions; assigns grade levels and exemption status as appropriate.

O. Participates in the implementation of system-related projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

A. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource management or other related field or equivalent experience required. Graduate degree, PHR and/or other HR certification preferred.

B. Minimum 5 years Human Resources experience required. Seven or more years of Human Resources experience, with emphasis in areas directly related to this position preferred.

C. 2-3 years previous supervisory or leadership experience

D. Previous experience with Lawson and/or Ceridian Source 550 software systems preferred

E. Advanced communication skills, both verbal and writing

F. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with all levels of TCF personnel

G. Strong analytical skills

H. Strong organizational skill and the ability to effectively manage time.
