Cooper Crouse-Hinds is seeking a Human Resources Manager for their Windsor CT location.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

1.              Recruit, screen, and orient new employees for managerial, supervisory, professional, office and factory assignments.

 

2.              Establish and administer procedures for job bidding, promotions, demotions, hourly layoffs and recalls.

 

3.              Administer compensation programs, job evaluation procedures and conduct and analyze local wage, salary and benefit surveys.

 

4.              Communicate and administer all benefit plans for the employees and perform the necessary duties for local claims handling, explanation of coverage, resolution of problems, pension plan provisions and pre-retirement counseling.

 

5.              Coordinate the establishment of plant work rules, corrective action procedures and complaint system to assure that they are administered in a fair and equitable manner.

 

6.              Establish and administer effective plant safety programs to insure compliance with OSHA regulations and safety rules.

 

7.              Develop and monitor plan security and act as security officer to insure that government classified material is handled in a prescribed manner and is accounted for.

 

8.              Investigate industrial accidents, insure proper reporting and recommend steps to be taken to eliminate recurrences.

 

9.              Administer medical services programs of pre-employment/post offer physicals and treatment of occupational injuries.

 

10.          Establish and implement affirmative action programs, monitor compliance and represent unit in handling complaint investigations or citations by Federal, State or local EEO agencies.

 

11.          Advise management on organizational structuring and staffing of management positions inn the unit and develop and implement programs to satisfy organizational development, management and supervisory development and individual training needs.

 

12.          Perform other duties as assigned.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

The position requires a broad knowledge gained by both formal education and wide experience in a variety of specialized activities to assure that the organization is staffed with the most effective people available, that the work force is properly paid, adequately trained, working under safe conditions, effectively disciplined, and working in harmony with one another and the management.

 

The incumbent must possess human relations skills of such a degree that he/she effectively handles day-to-day employees relations problems requiring resolution of differences of opinion or understanding in such manner as to forestall as many problems with the plant population and production as possible without eroding management efficiency or employee’s welfare.

 

This position requires the ability to analyze and evaluate information in a variety of situations, ranging from those where factual data area readily available to those where there are intangible and often emotional factors interacting with facts obscured.  The incumbent operates within an environment of growth and change requiring a flexible and creative attitude.

 

Internal contacts are with all departments regarding day-to-day human resources activities and problems and Division benefits, employee reactions, compensation and legal for consultation in their areas of expertise.

 

External contacts include various state agencies such as OSHA, EEOC and state employment services, employment agencies, and search firms and community groups such as Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Junior Achievement and local school administrators.

 

The incumbent acts as advisor to employee activities committee on company sponsored social events and publishes employee communication newsletters.

 

Responsible for maintaining the safety and health process and environmental compliance programs through the control of those hazards that create a risk of loss to employees, property, products and company reputation.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB:

 

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of seven years employee relations experience, preferably in a union-free manufacturing environment.
