Joslin Diabetes Center is an internationally recognized diabetes treatment, research and education institutionaffiliated with Harvard Medical School and headquartered in Boston, MA. Joslin is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes and improving the lives of people with diabetes through its cutting edge basic and clinical research, patient care programs for children and adults, and through programs and publications that improve the care of diabetes worldwide.
The Health Education Writer works with members of the clinical team along with internal and outside clinical subject matter experts to research, develop, write, and produce health-related curriculum-based content in print, slide, and web-based environments. The program curriculum focuses on diabetes education, diabetes prevention, and related topics such as pharmacology, hypertension, smoking cessation, physical activity, and nutrition.
Responsibilities:
The Health Education Writer contributes to the clinical team with creative program planning ideas, representing the learner’s needs with an understanding of diverse learning styles, functional health literacy, and numeracy. S/he is responsible for translating scientific content into brief articles, continuing education monographs and oral presentations. There is a potential for assuming more leadership roles in specific project management activities.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health Education or related field such as Health Promotion, Public Health, or Health Communications.
· Diabetes educator, pharmacist or nurse preferred.
· Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) desirable.
· 3-5 years experience as a health educator with a focus on creating and writing education materials and training curriculum for both consumer and healthcare professional audiences.
· Ability to search for and manipulate graphics to enhance the visual presentation of materials.
· Experience with individuals with a chronic disease and/or prevention/wellness programs with an understanding of behavior change and learning style is desirable.
· Experience developing curricula for continuing education accreditation desirable.
· Superior writing skills (portfolio showing diverse projects required).
· Excellent command of Microsoft Office.
· Effective time management skills.
· Comfortable working under tight deadlines.
· Ability to self-manage and work independently.
· Flexibility to adapt to changes in daily routine.
· Excellent oral communication skills and skills in public speaking.
