POSITION DESCRIPTION: Head of Investment Research for Braeburn Capital, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Inc., located in Reno, Nevada. Braeburn is expanding from 3 to 5 professionals and is responsible for managing Apple’s growing cash and investment portfolios. Approximately half of the current $18 billion portfolio is managed directly by Braeburn and half is managed by external asset managers. The position reports to the CIO and will lead the credit and analytic research function. The Head of Investment Research will be responsible for building and leading credit and analytic research efforts for all asset classes. This is a highly visible position with frequent interaction with senior/executive Apple finance members. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Build and lead the investment research function, including process, buy lists and restricted lists of financial and industrial credits • Develop analytic tools for duration analysis, efficient frontier modeling, value at risk, etc. • Support the direct management of short-term investments by coordinating with Portfolio Managers and the CIO to mitigate credit risk of the total portfolio • Leverage relationships with credit analyst peers at external investment management companies and rating agencies • Work closely with the entire investment team to continuously improve Braeburn Capital's market intelligence • Prepare for and lead credit discussions at weekly portfolio, market, and compliance reviews • Develop and maintain research analytics and credit monitoring in coordination with third parties • Oversee external managers including the restriction or forced sale of securities, if necessary • Support investment manager selections, manager changes and allocations • Assist the CIO in hosting quarterly Braeburn Board meetings • Learn and contribute in portfolio management, trading, operational and other corporate treasury roles within the context of a small professional team • Assist in the oversight of a 1-10 year external Muni portfolio • Analyze and recommend new investment classes and policy changes QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: • 5 to 10 years formal credit experience, preferably at a major rating agency, bank or buyside firm including extensive use of credit tools such as Capital IQ, Moody’s KMV, Financial Metrics, ALCAR, direct spreadsheet modeling, etc. • Extensive experience with portfolio analytic tools such as Blackrock Solutions, Lehman Point, CMS BondEdge, Bloomberg POMS, Solomon Yieldbook, Derivative Solutions, Barra World Markets Asset Allocator, etc. • MBA from a top business school and/or CFA • Strong background in accounting, economics, investment products and financial markets • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) • Desire to work and grow an investment company in Nevada
