The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator is responsible for the efficient management of one of five IRBs responsible for reviewing and approving research involving the participation of human subjects in medical or social and behavioral research. The Administrator supervises an administrative team, which typically includes a Sr. Admin. Analyst, two Administrative Specialists and a half-time Clerical Assistant.  Primary responsibility for the oversight, administration, implementation, and management of all IRB business, including policies and procedures related to the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects and the University's compliance with all federal, State and local regulations, policies and guidelines applicable to research involving human subjects in research. The Administrator is responsible for applying detailed and often times conflicting regulations, policies, and procedures in order to ensure IRB, institutional and investigator compliance as well as the protection of human subjects at UCLA. This position also assists in the education of investigators and research staff as required by the IRBs.

 

Desired Qualifications: 

Three years of related professional work experience which includes a significant body of scientific and medical concepts and terminology to properly review research proposals, request necessary additional information from researchers and to assist the IRB in auditing and ensuring compliance with the approved protocols.Demonstrated experience in supervision of support staff including effective skills to direct, guide, train and evaluate the efforts of other support staff.Must possess highly developed interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with faculty members, committee members, IRB chairpersons, senior academic administrators and federal regulatory and funding agencies. Experience in writing clear, precise, detailed, comprehensive and grammatically correct technical letters, memos, reports and training materials.Education and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in biomedical or social/behavioral sciences or a related field.
