Under supervision from the Head of Library Information Technology (LIT), and with direction from the Team Leader for LIT Data Center and Networking Team, serve as a systems administrator with operational responsibility for technical support, strategy, planning, and day-to-day maintenance of the Biomedical Library Technology and Learning Center (TLC) computer lab servers and network infrastructure. Collaborating with TLC operations staff, instructional partners (MedEdIT group), and the LIT data center staff, help to plan and design systems to support the TLC computer lab network and servers, providing services to TLC PC and Mac workstations, laptop ports, PC servers, and a mix of peripheral devices such as printers, slide shooters, scanners, TV/VCR players and slide projectors.
Library Information Technology is responsible for the systems development and operations for all of the Libraries at UCLA. Systems include both custom and purchased applications for both web and client server systems. The infrastructure includes approximately 1000 workstations, 65 servers with over 100 terabyte SANs supporting applications used worldwide via the Internet. The Biomedical Library Technology and Learning Center (TLC) provides frontline end-user support to Biomedical Library staff, the general public and the professional health sciences schools that comprise the lab's computer users.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated detailed knowledge of Microsoft Windows server systems, version 2003 or later, including setup and associated system administration utilities in an Active Directory and group policy environment and server security concepts.Strong working knowledge of data communications concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, other Ethernet networking protocols and domain authentication and trusts.Demonstrated experience and success in utilizing comprehensive procedural programming and scripting languages and tools.Demonstrated systematic approach to computer troubleshooting & testing techniques, and success determining solutions and effecting repairs for software and hardware.Familiarity with setting up and maintaining virtual infrastructure such as virtual servers, virtual storage, and virtual networking.Excellent interpersonal communications skills, particularly in end user relations & problem identification, sufficient to interact successfully with all levels of staff in trouble call response, and presentations.
