The Government Relations Specialist would be a member of Mercer’s Washington Resource Group (WRG) responsible for tracking, researching, analyzing, writing up, reporting, and communicating employee benefit and compensation issues, legislation and regulations of importance to Mercer consultants and clients in all areas of Mercer business – retirement, health & benefits, human capital, and executive compensation.   To fulfill this role, the Specialist would (among other responsibilities):Track federal policy, legislative, and regulatory issues and activities via online and hardcopy information sources, employer and plan sponsor trade groups and coalitions (e.g., ERISA Industry Committee, American Benefits Council, and HR Policy Association), attending congressional and agency hearings and meetings, and the like. Gather and provide primary source materials to Mercer consultants and clients to assist them in analyzing policy, legislative, and regulatory issues and activities. Analyze major issues and activities, and write news articles and indepth reports for publication both inside and outside Mercer. Participate in government relations team and brainstorming meetings with other WRG professionals and with Mercer experts and consultants to develop a better understanding of the major implications of policy, legislative, and regulatory issues and activities. Represent Mercer at government relations meetings, including employer and plan sponsor trade group and coalition meetings and congressional and agency meetings. Strong understanding of and experience with employer-maintained retirement, health & benefit, and executive compensation programs and with the government relations issues relating to these programs. Strong sense of urgency and commitment to excellence. Strong analytical, research, writing, and communication skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines, independently, and with minimal guidance.LocationWRG/Mercer office in Washington DC.
