We have this exciting new opportunity for a Government Relations Director in our Columbia, SC office. 'Serves as the primary American Heart Association/American Stroke Association representative to the South Carolina State Legislature and other local, state and federal policy makers, elected officials, and government agents 'Leads the development and implementation of state and local public policy strategies that promote and support AHA/ASA public policy priorities 'Proven ability to represent the organization externally and develop and cultivate relationships with state and federal policy makers and their staff 'Works with Affiliate Grassroots Manager and Media Advocacy Director to generate public and media support for local, state and federal priority issues 'Works effectively with Affiliate staff , volunteers, and organizational (coalition) partners in pursuing public health policy goals; monitors and evaluates public policy opportunities that could impact AHA strategic goals 'Works to ensure the successful implementation of advocacy events, such as lobby day(s), rallies, and the advocacy component of Cause Marketing initiatives 'Seeks out organizations, coalitions, companies and government agencies to leverage partnership opportunities that advance AHA public policy issues Attracting talented, committed employees means offering a competitive benefits package, ongoing professional development and training, and a diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and grow. EOE M/F/V/D 'We Value Diversity' Qualifications: 'Bachelor's Degree ' Political Science, Public Relations or other related field; advanced degree a plus 'Minimum of 3 years experience in government relations, policy analysis, and/or direct lobbying; community organizing experience helpful 'Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory/legislative process at the local, state, and federal levels 'Excellent oral and written communication skills 'Ironclad integrity; ability to earn the trust of volunteers and co-workers; puts organization's interest above self 'Ability to work in a non-partisan environment to achieve public policy goals 'The capacity to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is critical 'Willingness to take personal responsibility for the outcomes resulting from his/her judgment and decisions
