This position is based in Charleston, SC.The area: Data Center Google Data Centers are the collection of teams that builds, installs, maintains, and optimizes the company's hardware infrastructure, including our state-of-the-art datacenters, physical networking infrastructure, and cluster hardware. Our mission is to maintain Google's worldwide production computing infrastructure and to provide on-site services to other teams throughout the company in areas like Security operations, Enterprise support, Network Operations, and many others. To be successful in this dynamic entity, you must possess a solid grasp of Linux, PC Hardware and Networking with great teamwork ability, strong attention to detail and overall good business judgment.
The role: Data Center Technical Project Manager Working with all organizational levels and groups, as well as external vendors you will develop and manage project schedules, identify risks and clearly communicate them to project stakeholders, define problem solving and risk mitigation strategies, and facilitate conflict resolution through the full project cycle. You will oversee the compilation and analysis of project activity and will deliver statistical data/reports on a project's feasibility and progress.
A strong technical background in IT infrastructure, technology development/deployment is essential for your success in this position. You must have a proven track record of project completion that is on time and within budget. Successful candidates must be able to command the technical respect of Google engineers as well as run extremely effective projects on compressed timelines.
Responsibilities:
Managing multiple competing cross-functional projects simultaneously. Managing individual projects and running large multi-project programs.
Daily interactions with engineers, technicians, project managers and senior management.
Running meetings, creating and maintaining timelines, and keeping large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles.
Work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful eye on timelines and costs.
Developing and deploying the infrastructure required to bring new Google products to the world.
Qualifications: Third Level/Degree in IT/Engineering or related field.
Some experience of Linux system administration (Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo) or network administration.
Previous experience with data center infrastructure a plus.
2+ years of technical project management experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
Demonstrated skills in requirements gathering, resource organization, project/task prioritization and schedule development.
This job is based in South Carolina and could require up to 25% - 50% travel.
