SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Responsible to plan, organize and direct the accounting activities of NewPage.  Assist in the resolution of complex accounting issues that effect all NewPage locations.  Participate in establishing direction and leadership for NewPage Accounting in particular as well as the broader NewPage Financial organization.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

·          Assists in management of monthly closing process, constantly identify improved methods, and ensure appropriate treatment and compliance with GAAP

·          Supervises general accounting staff by establishing job expectations, coaching employees, appraising job results and mentoring performance

·          Coordinates the overall development and maintenance of accounting systems ensuring consistency, accuracy and timely reporting

·          Provides analytical support to management, including internal and external  financial reporting

·          Establishes internal controls necessary to insure conformance to established NewPage policies and procedures

·          Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving NewPage general accounting operations

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

BS/BA in Accounting or related financial area; MBA or CPA preferred with extensive knowledge of GAAP requirements.  Position requires 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting or financial roles with 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience.
