New financial processes and the use of sophisticated quantitative models are transforming the way investors analyze and manage risk, price financial instruments, and evaluate business strategies. The Financial Engineering team at Duff & Phelps provides the tools that investors need in this changing environment, improving clients’ ability to identify, control, diversify, mitigate and/or exploit risk. Using sophisticated mathematics, our Financial Engineering professionals design and evaluate derivatives, options, and other complex financial instruments to help achieve client goals. Duff & Phelps professionals have helped clients solve critical, numerically complex business problems using technically sophisticated mathematical models. These models have provided management with easily understood analyses of complicated issues, enabling decision making based on rigorous analysis rather than best guesses.

The Position

The Managing Director, Financial Engineering will serve as a key team member of the expanding Financial Engineering team reporting directly to the National Practice Leader. This practice is comprised of Financial Engineering engagement management and delivery professionals serving clients in the US and across the globe. The organization provides valuation advisory services related to complex derivatives and other financial instruments, assisting clients with the following:

 Valuation of securities in complex capital structures of private companies
 Employee stock option and management incentive plan valuation
 Bifurcation and valuation of embedded derivatives
 Contingent payment measurement and valuation
 Valuation of hedge books
 Valuation of illiquid equity, energy and credit derivatives

The Managing Director will be responsible for:

• Developing strategy for expanding Duff and Phelps Financial Engineering client base
• Assuring sound application of project management principles and quality assurance at all stages and phases of projects
• Advising project managers / consultants as necessary on project progress, client expectation management, while maintaining utilization and realization
• Creating, sustaining and leveraging board and senior management-level relationships in the business community
• Delivering presentations of Duff’s Financial Engineering services to new and potential clients
• Serving as the lead on Financial Engineering engagements which would include the valuation of financial derivatives, complex corporate securities and analyzing equity/debt/commodities financial market data and history using time series analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, multivariate statistics, and other quantitative techniques
• Oversee, modify, optimize and implement derivatives valuation models and strategies
• Develop and deliver consistent market risk measurements for derivatives and underlying securities
• Estimate probability distributions, volatilities and correlations
• Establishing marketing plans, targets and acceptable levels of prospect activity
• Manage and oversee consulting team with statistical and analytic support to address complex financial structures
• Practice management within an office or region (this obviously depends on the person’s professional experience, account responsibility and depth of relationships)


The Managing Director will also contribute to the Firm’s long term growth strategy through direct involvement with the following:

• Manage client relationships; identify and develop opportunities to enhance relationships with existing clients/contacts and new potential business
• Recruit, train, develop and evaluate Financial Engineering professional and administrative staff
• Identify cross-marketing opportunities within and across Duff & Phelps CFC practice areas.
• Overall engagement responsibility for multiple Financial Engineering assignments
• Manage “teams” of all levels of professional staff to ensure effective professional time utilization.
• Demonstrate support in advancing company and office objectives of profitability, professionalism and teamwork with colleagues and clients.

Position Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years experience valuing options, futures, swaps and other derivatives, and in designing and structuring financial instruments with an in-depth knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics as applies to the financial markets
• Demonstrated self-starter functioning most effectively in fast-paced, multi-task driven environments
• Demonstrated superior interpersonal, communication, client service, and organizational skills
• Proven track record of leadership and effective management in matrixed organizations

Education

Graduate degree (MFE or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline
