Shell Exploration & Production Company (SEPCo) is responsible for safely finding, developing and producing oil and natural gas in North America. Shell Exploration & Production Company is seeking a Facilities Engineering R&D Project Manager for their Houston, Texas (Two Shell Plaza) location. Responsibilities : The Unconventional Oil group has the largest share of the research and technology development funds allocated by Shell EP in its quest to unlock, at commercial scale, vast resources of unconventional oil, such as oil shale and ultra-heavy oil. The Future / Emerging Technology Team in Unconventional Oil is being created with a strong mandate of developing novel technology options that can generate significant upside economics for the commercial projects and long term portfolio by improving reservoir performance, reducing facilities/well costs, and delivering CO2 solutions. This position will play a key role in the Future/Emerging Technology Team and offers exciting opportunities for helping Shell unlocking the unconventional oil as well as professional growth. The current Future/Emerging Technology portfolio covers novel enhanced oil recovery process optimization for various types of assets, next generation heaters, waste heat recovery, high temperature drilling and intervention, low cost facilities, power generation, CO2 capture, etc. Lead R&D projects aimed at surface facilities improvement and novel facilities design for Unconventional Oil’s in-situ technologies. Lead CO2 capture R&D for Unconventional Oil. Lead facilities engineering support for all R&D screening and maturation projects within UO. Key Accountabilities The delivery of projects using novel and fit-for-purpose facilities technology as an enabler to significantly reduce costs and/or improve product delivery of Unconventional Oil’s in-situ recovery processes. Setting up and leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver R&D projects. When maturation is complete, flawless transition projects to Unconventional Oil’s portfolio of pilots and commercial ventures. The establishment of a successful pathway, involving in-depth discussions and structured workshops, to deliver viable emerging technology concepts to underpin future projects. Develop appropriate relationships and alliances with third parties (National Labs, Academia, Shell internal technology/project organizations) for fostering innovative idea development. Engineering disciplines interface for the Future/Emerging Technology Team. Participation in technical assurance and other reviews. Identify, define and resource new technology projects that could have a significant impact on UO’s commercial performance and future success. Introduce new emerging technology concepts, focused on surface facilities optimization, for future potential projects. In conjunction with other team members, develop and implement an R&D plan for innovative idea development. Requirements : Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer. Broad understanding of the EP business, and the specific challenges associated with achieving project delivery in complex and challenging environments. Broad skills/knowledge of facilities engineering with 15+ yr of experience. Process engineering skills will be a valuable skill to bring to this job. Proven track record of delivering results that directly impact Shell business. Proven track record in exhibiting personal creativity/innovation and technical leadership. Skilled in framing and evaluating opportunities, identifying and managing project risks and planning and managing project resource requirements. Skill/mastery in communicating and persuading. Expert in knowledge and implementation of new and mature surface facility technologies. Good knowledge of surface disciplines and familiarity with cost engineering and process improvement. Good interpersonal relationship skills. Additional Requirements Facilities and processes involved are complex and range widely. Continuously generate and funnel ideas to distil potentially high-impact emerging technology concepts. Identify showstoppers early, so that projects can be dropped in a timely manner and new ones started up. Attract the right resources in a timely fashion to work on new technology projects.
