Description: This position deals with day-to-day planning and execution of assignments, which may include, but not limited to, tasks such as the following:
Understand program priorities as established by management team and establish tactics to complete work in appropriate order.
Issue work orders and be responsible for ensuring completion, potentially requiring leading and mentoring other mechanics with respect to procedural or product knowledge to manage builds, repairs, updates, or other major shopwork.
Install, trouble shoot and adjust mechanical, hydraulic, electrical components by using appropriate diagnostic tools such as: ET, pressure gages, multimeter. Uses readily available, clear and direct references such as SIS, or less direct sources, such as engineering drawings, to acquire needed information.
Conducts investigations, evaluations, and provides input to resolve issues in areas such as: operator acceptance, serviceability, product performance characteristics, and product reliability. Operates test equipment such as CADET and DATAVIEW using appropriate instrumentation processes.
Work offsite at other Cat facilities, suppliers, dealers, in the lab, field and at the proving grounds, customer locations; observing, operating and testing the product or component as the program requires.
Assist engineers to communicate results by analyzing and summarizing data in appropriate form (curves, charts, tables, sketches, photographs).
Must continuously learn through experience and training to stay abreast of technology changes. Learning focuses on methods and processes applied to engineering functions, practical application of technical skills, communications and building knowledge of Caterpillar's products.
This posting will close on 06/18/2008. Qualifications: Requires an accredited technical degree such as ThinkBIG or equivalent experience with Caterpillar product and service practices. Necessary to have 2 years of experience as a vehicle mechanic and/or a 2-year technical degree and/or participation in the internship program.Required skills include appropriate computer applications, oral and written communication, project management, constructive cultural and interpersonal skills. A thorough understanding of machine systems and interactions and experience with technical evaluation and development practices is highly beneficial.
