Baltimore City Government is seeking a highly experienced, self-motivated professional to lead the quasi-governmental entity, Baltimore Rising, Inc.  The mission of Baltimore Rising, Inc., is to provide programs that offer City residents opportunities for human development through, mentoring, transitioning returning offenders and family strengthening.  The incumbent has total administrative and programmatic responsibility for the development, management and implementation of all programs and strategies with primary emphasis on fundraising, grant writing, and contract supervision. The Executive Director is expected to develop short-term and long-term goals, have managerial responsibility for the work of employees in Baltimore Rising, Inc. and manage a budget of more than $1.4 million dollars.  In addition, this position is expected to stay on top of recent developments and trends in the field and serve as a liaison with various community leaders.  The Executive Director is appointed by and is directly accountable to the Mayor of Baltimore City and Baltimore Rising Inc.’s Board of Directors. 

The ideal candidate will serve as an avid fundraiser, proactively promoting programs that enhance the human potential of City residents.  The successful candidate is responsible for directing programs that have the highest scope and effect on missions and operations of Baltimore Rising, Inc.  

Qualifications for the successful applicant include:

The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of grant and fundraising development and administration. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in a non-profit or not-for-profit organization managing grants and fundraising activities. Excellent communication and organization skills.  Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Four years of experience in administering a public service, or related program, including two years of supervisory responsibilities. Sound staff management skills, and strategic and analytic skills. Strong experience in a public service program with responsibilities for program management and development.

The applicant must have demonstrated experience, skills and characteristics, which include:

Ability to successfully attract and maintain fundraising sources. Ability to develop and write grants. High level of professionalism and work ethic and a proven decision-maker and visionary. Ability to build and maintain effective working and interpersonal relationships with the community, public and political entities, subordinates, and superiors. Ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience.  Ability to develop and implement short and long-range plans and goals. Personal and professional dynamics necessary for attracting, developing, motivating, and retaining high quality personnel.
