SAIC has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Engineer in the Oak Ridge, Tennessee office.

This is a tremendous opportunity for an individual to join an industry leader implementing cutting edge remediation technologies. The Environmental Engineer will be part of a diverse team of engineers and scientists supporting environmental restoration projects (federal, state, and commercial) located primarily in the southeastern U.S.

The Environmental Engineer will work under the supervision and mentorship of senior engineers and scientists on multiple assignments performing data analysis, remediation system performance assessments, report preparation, engineering applications, and support project design efforts.

Will provide oversight, supervision, and field engineering support for construction activities and ensure that contractors perform work in accordance with design documents and specifications. Types of construction oversight will include, but is not limited to overseeing excavation of contaminated soil, construction and startup of remedial systems (air sparge, soil vapor and multi-phase extraction, etc.) and installation of in-situ groundwater treatment systems (drilling, piping systems, amendment injections, control systems, etc.).

Project Management opportunities are available depending on candidate’s experience. The ideal candidate is expected to obtain the pre-requisites and experience required to obtain Professional Engineer certification. Up to 30% travel may be required, primarily in the southeastern U.S. Travel times will range from less than 1 week up to several weeks. Work in a variety of outdoor field settings under a variety of weather conditions will be required.

Education:
Must possess a minimum of a BS degree in Engineering (civil, chemical, environmental, mechanical, or geotechnical) and have passed the EIT exam or be able to acquire EIT within 6 months of employment. Masters degree or above is preferred.

Required Skills:
3+ years groundwater experience and exposure to soil remediation is required. Internships, co-op experience, and advance degrees may be considered in the evaluation of experience. Ability to work independently, adapt to a changing work environment, have good problem solving skills, solid communication skills, and strong self-initiative. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Microsoft Project is required.

Candidate will be required to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel. Must have, or be able to obtain shortly after hire, OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (e.g., ability to perform fieldwork at hazardous waste sites).

Desired Skills:
Field experience with knowledge of remediation systems. Familiarity with designs of insitu chemical oxidation, soil vapor extraction, dual-phase extraction, insitu bioremediation, and groundwater treatment systems. Proficiency in field documentation, technical report writing, and analysis skills. Construction oversight experience.
