ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

POSITION BASIC PURPOSE

To perform basic High Power Test Lab functions during shift.

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION AND MAJOR CHALLENGES

·          Conduct high fault current, surge testing, time current and cycling testing in accordance with test standard specifications.

·          Maintain all of the Labs’ Power Generation and associated Test Equipment.

·          Assure the Lab procedures comply with ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 functions to maintain certification.

·          Cross train lab personnel and associates on all procedures associated with the Labs.

·          Maintain a high degree of working knowledge of listing services standards.

·          Evaluate Test Data and Test Performances to support Design Engineers’ theories.

·          Recommend upgrades and justify reasons for Safety, Power Generation and Data Acquisition upgrades.

·          Assist on Team Projects as required.

·          Keep the lab and equipment clean.

·          Must be willing to work overtime.

DIMENSIONS OF THE POSITION

·          Support Engineering teams on all projects.

·          Support Marketing teams.

·          Conduct testing for outside customers.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.

To maintain and operate the lab in a safe condition.

2.

To conduct testing at an effective and efficient level.

3.

To contribute to the support of the Engineering teams to help meet their goals.

4.

To contribute to the customers’ satisfaction by meeting their deadlines.

MEANS

·          One complete high current test station, which includes data acquisition system and processing systems.

·          A co-op, technician or engineer to assist in the day-to-day operation of the test lab.

AUTONOMY MARGIN

·          Cannot commit the test lab budget without manager’s approval.

·          Cannot schedule large block of test time without manager’s approval.

·          Cannot commit to long shutdown periods without manager’s approval.

MEASUREMENT CRITERIA

·          Assure that internal testing does not exceed a one-week turn around time. 

·          Outside customer and internal customer satisfaction.

·          Maintenance is completed on time and the proper maintenance documentation is up to date.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES, AND ABILITIES)

·          Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

·          Working experience with PC operating platforms (Windows, Excel, and Word).

·          General knowledge of Transformer Theory, Solid State Components and Electromagnetic Fields.

·          Ability to understand and troubleshoot Control Systems to the Component Level.

·          Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems and IEEE Interface Systems.

·          Must be capable of communicating with internal engineers and customers.
