The Linux Development organization within SGI Engineering has an immediate opening at either the main SGI campus in Sunnyvale, California or Eagan, Minnesota for an engineering department manager to lead SGI''s Linux kernel development group. The Linux Kernel group is responsible for designing and developing Linux kernel enhancements to improve scaling, performance, RAS, and other general operating system features for the Linux kernel. Responsibilities include managing OS kernel engineers, setting plans and goals for the group and individuals, scheduling resources, working with other engineering, marketing, and support managers to establish and deliver upon project and company goals and objectives. This position also involves working and collaborating with leaders within the Linux community, outside vendors, and high profile customers. Requirements: Bachelor or Masters of Science degree majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. Must have experience managing groups of 8 or more engineers split between multiple geographic locations and be familiar with Linux or UNIX kernel internals. Candidate must have good communications skills, effective leader, team player, and work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experienced with working with the Linux kernel and/or the Linux community is a plus.
