Position Summary:
Provide leadership for Compressor engineering group in North America consisting of 15-20 direct reports, including engineers, designers, VAVE personnel and technicians. Overall responsibilities include developing and driving the vision, strategy, motivation, personnel development and budget to optimize design, test, application and core development activities. Responsible for maintenance of current products, improvement of current products and development of new products.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage an annual budget of $1.5-2M and the estimation, initiation, scheduling, and execution of applicable project and support activities within the group Support Product Business Team to define strategic product line direction and establish priorities based on customer needs and critical milestones Monitor competitive compressor, technology and engineering process landscapes to identify industry and technology trends, and develop strategies to introduce new or complementary products, technologies, processes (FEA, CFT, etc.) with related probabilities Drive next generation product selection and development Drive continuous improvement in the assigned areas of responsibility, using Six Sigma tools & methodologies Represent Air Compressor engineering on Engineering Leadership Team (ELT) Develop and maintain a very positive and healthy relationship with Knorr-Bremse Air Compressor colleagues

Demonstrated engineering leadership with cross-functional influence Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, closure, decision-making and driving for success/results Ability to work with limited direction and with tasks/strategies having some level of ambiguity Strong organization and delegation skills Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills Ability to resolve and manage conflict Proven ability to assess personnel's potential and performance Perseverance for resolving customer, personnel and technical issues Demonstrated technical/analytical skills when resolving engineering related issues required to support business needs Ability to think strategically High degree of technical knowledge relative to engineering technologies, practices and methodologies Demonstrated ability to migrate to and deal effectively with new technologies (i.e. electronics) Ability to effectively manage in a customer/business-focused, team-based cross-functional matrix organization and to manage time, multiple priorities and projects is essential Multi cultural awareness (Europe, North America, Brazil, etc.) desired -  German language capability preferred Knowledge of Six Sigma tools (Greenbelt or Blackbelt Certification desirable) and Microsoft Office/Project  Required SkillsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Commercial vehicle and/or automotive experience strongly preferred 10+ years of experience in various Engineering roles in consistently more responsible positions, including 3 years of directly managing people Experience in overseeing engineering product development projects and 5 years lead engineer experience required Experience in compressor design and application engineering, preferably in the global and domestic trucking industry Experience with structured development processes which includes FMEA's, DVP&R, etc. Knowledge of compressors and related technologies, and knowledge of air brakes and trucking industry preferred
