We welcome you to apply for the following opportunity as an ENGINEER II with the Boilers Business supporting projects located throughout the world. The position, based in Windsor, Connecticut, USA, reports to the Manager of Engineering for the Boilers Business.
Under limited supervision, position has moderate impact on the efficiency and integrity of engineering efforts and related economic implications on assigned projects.
Position responsibilities includes but not limited to:
Design, analyze and/or evaluate specific engineering requirements. Develop basic sketches and/or directions for various applications as required. Obtain and develop data for and prepare specifications, test procedures, safety reports and purchase-related documents. Review, analyze, and report on supplier, architect-engineer and consortium partner drawings and proposals and make recommendations on specific technical areas. Consult with appropriate engineering functions to insure design criteria is suitable for the application and advise those concerned of changes required. Perform detailed calculations and interpret or review routine calculations under specific direction. Prepare or lead the preparation of technical documents. Assist in developing new or modified computer programs. Assist less experienced engineers and technicians on specific technical problems. Carry out basic economic studies for bid purposes. Participate in various internal meetings to present technical basis for Company’s position. May perform lead function in achieving engineering schedule, hours and technical quality. Prepare instructions and supplemental information for lower level engineers. Identify and process changes that impact contract margin. Engage in domestic and/or international travel as required.
The qualified candidate must be familiar with varied fossil steam generation products including both pulverized coal (Sub and Supercritical) and CFB technology. Must possess an ability to immediately perform the principal duties with professional competency under limited supervision. Is able to perform independent and innovative performance of the principal duties on routine but sophisticated engineering functions – understanding sophisticated design work, engineering calculations, use of automated systems, and analysis. Demonstrate technical creativity and strong problem solving on unique and unusual problems, sometimes with guidance from more experienced personnel. Able to prepare technical documents and conduct technical presentations and/or act as principal investigator or in lead capacity and able to gain confidence of others in technical expertise.
Position requires:
BS in Engineering; or practical experience sufficiently applicable to the specified position functions Minimum 3+ years professional engineering experience; or MS in Engineering/Science with 2+ years of professional engineering experience; or practical experience with developing comprehensive and complex logic for parametric models and within Excel. Solid knowledge of fossil steam generation product design and engineering execution processes – and possesses experience with SolidWorks for large, complex models. Prefer previous experience in lead technical roles. Solid orientation to the commercial implications of engineering performance, coupled with customer focus. Excellent communication and interface skills, with the capability of facilitating integrated efforts of multiple engineering functions. Working knowledge of PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, database, and engineering program applications.
