Embedded Systems Software Architect

Description:
The group which this position works within has responsibility for developing and implementing software libraries, tools, and system architecture and control design guidelines across a line of machine and engine products. Our section has responsibility for defining and managing the process and environment used to design the embedded systems controlling various electronic systems on machine and engine products. We also have responsibility for establishing architecture and system standards for system diagnostics, input/output processing, controls design, data transfer/communication, and software quality assessment and improvement. We actively seek talented, hardworking, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team and contribute to the success of our Division. This position is a software architect/developer in leading the development and implementation of common software architecture, input/output conditioning, and diagnostics across our applications. As this customer further implements the System Development Environment, it is essential to have a software architect leading common implementation across the organization to build consensus and drive to a common solution. You will communicate the development status and requirements to other software and systems sections. The System Development Environment project is developing the tool suite and environment within which all of our embedded system design and development will be done in the future. To best leverage that tool environment, the organization must move toward a more model-based software architecture and build common diagnostics and input/output processing into the development process. The person in this position must understand embedded system development as well as software architecture and implementation requirements to provide essential support in furthering advancing software development processes. This position is located in the Midwest and relocation assistance will be provided.

Requirements:
The candidate must have a 4-year Engineering degree with a minimum of 5 years working as a embedded software developer. Software/systems experience must include designing, developing, and troubleshooting embedded software operational on a production-deployed system. Also required is prior experience in developing and documenting requirements and software user documentation. Knowledge of embedded system and software development, including development of embedded control software with real-time operating systems, C/C++ programming, and embedded software development tools and environments strongly preferred. Excellent people interaction, teamwork, leadership, and oral/written communication skills are also required. Familiarity with machine and engine applications or similar mobile, earthmoving, construction, agricultural, off-highway, or engine applications is highly desirable. Desire knowledge of embedded system software architecture and version control management systems, including Clearcase. Desire knowledge of control system modeling tools, including Matlab and Simulink. Desire knowledge of CAN/J1939 handler software as well as experience with CANape and CANalyzer development tools.
