Luna Innovations, a NASDAQ-listed public company is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Charlottesville location. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting ongoing interdisciplinary research projects and new technology development. Responsibilities will include design and development of electrical components, devices and systems for research and product development efforts in the general areas of sensors, wireless devices, and electronic materials. The position will require design and customization of developmental systems to meet the changing needs of research testing. The candidate will need to be creative and work with other staff to assemble test hardware and software systems to support research activities. Existing research projects include the development of novel wireless, electrical and fiber optic sensors for materials characterization, structural monitoring, chemical process control, and medical devices. Some travel may be required and the ability to document and relate technical information verbally and in written form to team members and outside customers is critical. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced interdisciplinary environment is essential.
BS in Electrical Engineering with specific knowledge of device design and development. Capability to provide mathematical analysis of electrical systems and have good electrical hardware and test instrument knowledge. Skilled in the use of test equipment such as data acquisition hardware, oscilloscopes, function generators, and spectrum and network analyzers. Knowledge of embedded design & development, circuit design and analysis, and printed circuit layout are all beneficial. Ability to program in MATLAB, LabView and C, C++, JAVA or Visual Basic.
