As the Electrical/Control Engineer (Motor Control Design), you will be responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating electric motor and motor controls for customer specific mobile vehicle applications. The Electrical/Control Engineer will determine design approaches and parameters, analyze and simulate requirements, and select design components, equipment and suppliers based on system specifications and reliability requirements. Other responsibilities include: *Designing cost effective products that meet customers required features and functions as well as the established reliability and quality requirements. *Reviewing documentation necessary for product development generated by other engineering groups and verifying this documentation is sufficient for product design *Maintaining design documentation for review by other engineering personnel *Establishing design parameter and ensuring electronic design comply with Design Validation Specifications and Product Specifications *Working with outside suppliers, project team members, and on Cross-Functional teams as needed *Travel as needed to meet with customers to generate and/or revise concepts and product requirements
Requirements:
*MS degree in Electrical Engineering, or MS degree in other equivalent technical discipline *6+ years of experience as a practicing Engineer in the development of vehicle electric motion control components and systems with considerable knowledge of testing, and manufacturing of such systems with experience in motor, motor control and/or power electronics design. *Ability to adapt motor and motor control hardware, software and mechanical packaging to mobile equipment applications. *Knowledge of power electronics for motor and auxiliary motor drive control *Power circuit design and development including DC/DC, AC/DC and DC/AC converters, inverters and motor drives. *Power semiconductor characterization and detailed circuit analysis and modeling, including thermal modeling *Motor control algorithm and software for brushless DC, induction and switched reluctance motors *Solid understanding of motor control methods and theory *Comprehensive knowledge of electric motion control drive products and systems *Ability to optimally select components, and size and configure the motion control system *Ability to model and simulate electric motor drive systems *Ability to plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria *Ability to perform assignments with instructions as to the general results expected *Ability to lead the work of other engineers or technicians as assigned Volt is an Equal Opportunity Employer
