People who can sell are always looking for the best product, an imposing historical track record and performance pedigree so that they can overcome objections, qualification issues, financial impediments, and bonding/surety limitations. Good promotional professionals employ that pedigree to go out and open doors, access meaningful clients, and large potential work, quickly differentiating themselves from the other competitors. You are working in sales, preconstruction or project management for a successful medium to large scale (20+ million annual sales) sized electrical designer/builder or electrical constructor. We are offering you the opportunity to represent a quarter billion+ dollar constructor.We can title this job a variety of ways to give you maximum latitude and minimum resistance to entry. The job function is project identification, relationship development, conceptual estimating, proposal development, contractual terms and conditions evolution / contract development, and relationship support throughout the project lifecycle.Our goal is to pursue private work, and where possible, to negotiate with an owner. Many if not most companies turn over the project interface with the client to the project manager once a contract is in place. What we have learned is that it is nearly essential to preserve the impact of the relationship that brought us the business particularly as we are chasing community movers and shakers. Handoff to project management may seem to be a convenience for the sales / preconstruction people, but that shortcut seems to limit the annuity value of the business. The early “bond” formed between you, our firm and the client was formed between the person that introduced the companies to one another and assembled the deal, that person being YOU. We have long known that a small and judicious quantity of positive involvement (you ARE NOT going to be the project manager) from that first personal introduction through to project completion goes a long way towards providing client satisfaction and the smooth progress of the project. That higher level of involvement is what is most likely to land you the next job from a happy client. It gets us paid more reliably. It is actually easier to keep work flowing from an existing client base than it is to constantly mine and begin new relationships, so this extended hand holding policy of ours will work for you. To be the constructor of choice for meaningful electrical construction projects takes just a handful of easy to identify and quantify assets, but that combination of assets resides in a relatively small number of companies. We have the financial clout, the staff, the engineering (EE designers and estimators with unique backgrounds that include electrical engineering, design and even architecture). We have good prefabrication engineering and prefab shop to help provide economical construction alternatives. We have the purchasing power, the bonding /surety and the will and vision to get challenging work done meeting and exceeding all expectations and commitments. On top of all of that, we can be a “best price and delivery” vendor but that is not all we have to sell.What is missing is a hardworking promotional professional to uncover the choice opportunities and to get in front of them. For an electrical construction business development person, differentiation, industry’s best resources, and best price point can usually get the job done. We routinely deliver the sought after deal parameters the clients need. The best promoter has great soft skills but also the technical electrical skills and conceptual electrical estimating skills to accompany those relationship building and sales skills. Client management skills, project oversight experience, and operational depth can all be assets as well in the role of the company front person. Our goal is to identify and sell private design/build or design-assist electrical construction projects and to be the easiest and most predictable electrical construction resource for that client from project inception to closeout, fortifying that relationship all along the way such that the next job becomes your job and our job. The work we are chasing is urban and suburban commercial project work in the extended Bay Area.The project types that make sense to pursue can include high-rise office or multifamily, multi-use facilities, medical centers, upscale retail facilities, luxury auto dealerships, big-box retail, mall complex and similar million plus dollar commercial projects. Your calling card can be gravitas and astounding charisma or it can be the technical project expertise you may carry through the doorway in combination with the company’s large-scale resources, excellent design/build engineering department, extremely sophisticated project controls, tier one purchasing power, and modest labor costs. Diligence and perserverance will be part of it for certain.Speed and coordination is something we do very well, and we drive the schedules on most of our constructions. We can bond jobs of any size, are reasonably flexible about work types we will look at, and can deliver that combination of price, schedule and quality time and time again. Short of coming up against corruption and bid rigging, when given a fair shake on a level playing field for private commercial electrical construction, we have what is takes to beat the competition. While engineering, price, quality and delivery has been enough to allow us to grow year after year profitably, deals are still put together because of relationships between people. THE ESSENTIAL JOB The duties and responsibilities of this job are to locate and qualify electrical construction opportunities that fit our operational capabilities and capacities, sell your expertise, sell the company’s assets, develop winning electrical construction services proposals, evolve good terms and conditions, close contracts, and track the entire process supporting your clients’ needs through project completion. Keeping it all on track and moving forward is part of this job. Client support through construction: By providing reasonable handholding you will build relationships and get successive jobs, a process that is actually easier than starting new pursuits from scratch. Sophisticated clients expect an exceptional communicator.You must have professional discipline and stick-to-it character.You must have technical electrical construction management exposure and an understanding of the process technically and financially. You must be a professional with the ability to plan, evaluate and prioritize work.You will need to possess genuine technical electrical systems expertise, and with specific knowledge of design, construction, code, contract law and estimating attendant to commercial electrical constructions with project sizes larger than one million electrical construction dollars.You must have the ability to adapt to and work smoothly with a wide variety of people and “types”.You must have the ability to gain the cooperative support of others and build a team. The ability to tie up loose ends, refine understandings, distill and remove non-issues, overcome objections, and get deals closed is necessary here.
