Tampa Armature Works has an immediate opening for an experienced Electric Motor Winder for our motor shop in Tampa, FL.  Founded in 1921, TAW® has grown to become one of the largest rotating equipment repair houses in the country and the largest Kohler generator distributors in the world.  TAW® has expanded its operations to 14 locations in Florida and Georgia.

 

Duties:

 

Reviews wiring diagrams and work order or examines sample coil to ascertain type and size of wire specified, and type, size, length, circumference and primary and secondary windings of coil to be wound.Inspect various kinds of electrical-mechanical equipment for damage and evidence of electrical malfunctions.Test conditions of windings according to company standards.Illustrate and/or document all relevant data specific to unit’s electro-mechanical characteristics, operating conditions, existing damage or intended serviceability.Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable elector-mechanical equipment.Clean electric motors by means of stripping, pressure washing and sandblasting.Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding and inspect renewed parts for hidden, structural damage or unusual conditions.Rewind various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment including but not limited to: single-phase, three phase DC fields, armatures, wound rotors and transformers.  Observe proper insulating techniques and/or requirements during rewinding.Test rewound elector-mechanical equipment according to company standards and document test results.Completed job paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.Operate specialized repair and testing equipment including winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core-loss testers, cut-off saws, burnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems and various hand power and non-power tools.Wraps insulation between layers and around would coil or inserts plastic blocks between turns to form cooling ducts.Cuts wire to form leads.Winds cotton, glass mica, paper or tape around coil and brushes vanish on coil or dips coil in varnish, epoxy or wax to reinforce and seal coil.Strips insulation from end of lead wires, threads lead wire through insulating sleeves or slides sleeves over leads and solder lead wires to terminals.Test coils for winding continuity.All other duties as assigned. 

  

Education, Skills and Experience:

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.Certification for a Technical school helpful.To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer applications.Mechanical aptitude required.Prior experience working as a Winder desired.
