About the Opportunity
Under general supervision of the Regional Manager of Distribution System Operations, this Electric Distribution System Operator located in Erie Pennsylvania assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the regional distribution system. This includes, but is not limited to:
*Outage restoration during emergency or abnormal conditions with timely record keeping associated with the distribution system.
*Recommend operational improvements and communicate system events to appropriate personnel.
*Operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management System (EMS), Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM) computer system, Power On Outage Management System (OMS), as well as radio and telephone systems.
*Analyze and act promptly in cases of system disturbance so that the system can be restored to a normal configuration.
*Provide technical analysis, monitor system conditions, schedule and/or authorize First Energy distribution equipment outages and load transfers.
*Develop detailed scenarios to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages.
*Prepare switching and operating procedures for the distribution system.
*Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to trouble crews and switching personnel.
*Monitor system and weather conditions and implement corrective action.
*Coordinate staffing requirements by calling additional resources to handle emergencies.
*Properly communicate system events.
*Schedule distribution, substation, and line equipment outages and load transfers.
*Proficiently/efficiently utilize array of PC applications.

Qualifications

Required

Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent working experience required with demonstrated understanding to operate the distribution system.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Transmission and Distribution operation, maintenance and construction practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools to operate the distribution system.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn Reading and comprehension skills to effectively interpret switching request, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals, standards and procedures used to develop distribution switching orders.

Skills in the development, collection, organization and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop switching orders and recommendations.

Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors involved with the construction, operation and maintenance of the T&D facilities.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn specific mainframe and PC applications.

Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills to make quick assessments and deliver well-thought decisions when situations occur requiring independent judgement.

Must live within 60 mile commute.

Must be willing to work rotating shifts and be available for overtime work when needed.

Must pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatching Test (SOPD).
