About the Opportunity
Under general supervision of the Regional Manager of Dispatch Services, this Distribution System Operator, in Akron, Ohio assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the regional distribution system. This includes, but is not limited to:
*Outage restoration during emergency or abnormal conditions with timely record keeping associated with the distribution system.
*Recommend operational improvements and communicate system events to appropriate personnel.
*Operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management System (EMS), GIS Mapping System, Power On Outage Management System (OMS), as well as radio and telephone systems.
*Analyze and act promptly in cases of system disturbance so that the system can be restored to a normal configuration.
*Provide technical analysis, monitor system conditions, schedule and/or authorize FirstEnergy distribution equipment outages and load transfers.
*Develop detailed scenarios to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages.
*Prepare switching and operating procedures for the distribution system.
*Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to trouble crews and switching personnel.
*Monitor system and weather conditions and implement corrective action.
*Coordinate staffing requirements by calling additional resources to handle emergencies.
*Properly communicate system events.
*Schedule distribution, substation, and line equipment outages and load transfers.
*Proficiently/efficiently utilize array of PC applications.

Qualifications

Required

Associate's or greater degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent working experience required with demonstrated understanding to operate the distribution system.

Must have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors involved with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the T&D Facilities.

Clear and articulate verbal communication skills to convey critical information to the field via the phone and radio in normal and emergency situations.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn Transmission and Distribution operation, maintenance, and construction practices, procedures, work methods, equipment to operate distribution system.

Must pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatching Test.

Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule and be available for overtime work when needed.

Must reside within 40 minute commute time.

Must have interpersonal and analytical skills to make quick assessments and deliver sound decisions in situations requiring independent judgment.

Must have reading and comprehension skills to effectively interpret switching requests, engineering drawings and schematics, equipment instruction manuals and standards and procedures to develop distribution switching orders.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn, specific mainframe and PC applications.
