The Williams Institute, a national think tank on sexual orientation law and public policy at UCLA School of Law, seeks an experienced and energetic Education Coordinator with a passion for advancing the mission of the Institute and meeting and exceeding goals. Qualified applicants will have creativity, enthusiasm, and excellent organizational skills. The Education Coordinator will oversee and implement the Institute’s education programs and help disseminate its research to judges, legislators, other policy-makers, and the public. The Education Coordinator will primarily be responsible for the Institute's conferences, roundtables, and speakers series; CLE courses; webpage content; newsletters, and e-mail alerts. The Education Coordinator will also support the Institute’s judicial training and development programs. Strong writing, interpersonal and computer skills required. Applicants with prior experience with conference planning, event planning, legal education, public relations and/or sexual orientation law and public policy issues preferred. The Education Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and fit easily into a hardworking team. Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Responsibilities and Duties
Plan and implement comprehensive public and legal education programs on sexual orientation and gender identity law and policy issues.Plan the logistics for and execute the Institute’s Annual Update, other conferences, moot court competition, expert roundtables, panels, speaker series, and continuing legal education (CLE) programs.Create and update education events master calendar.Arrange for travel for speakers for Williams Institute events.Develop registration procedures and guidelines specifically tailored for each program.Create and manage event and program budgets.· Coordinate approval of CLE credit for CLE events and produce all documents and materials required for CLE courses. Analyze CLE evaluations after events.
· Coordinate and perform all day-of-event activities, including catering, registration, parking, and signage.
· Recruit, organize and supervise student employees and volunteers.
· Support the Executive Director with publicity, outreach, and media relations activities of the Williams
Institute.
· Design printed materials and press kits, including conference brochures and event calendars.
Ensure events and programs comply with all UCLA policies and procedures. Provide event planning support for the Institute’s judicial training and development programs.Coordinate the Institute’s work with other parts of UCLA School of Law and UCLA. Travel, as needed, to meet responsibilities.Other duties as assignedQualifications
A BA, with further degree or study preferred.A high level of individual initiative and relentless commitment to meeting and exceeding goals.A true passion about advancing the work of the Williams Institute and LGBT rights more generally.Knowledge of LGBT legal and policy issues, scholarship, and scholars preferred.Working knowledge of event management principles with prior experience planning and executing conferences, panels, events, and/or other training and education programs. Ability to plan, direct, and monitor event and program budgets, including budget preparation, and administration of expenditures.Demonstrated skill in writing in order to produce professional, clear and compelling education materials, public announcements, and routine business correspondence; and the ability to evaluate and edit any of these for content, style, and format.Experience of overseeing production of printed materials, including working with printers and graphic designers.Prior experience planning and executing webpage and/or media relations program preferred.Strong oral and written communication skills.Ability to work well independently and in a small collaborative office of committed, hardworking people.Strong organizational skills to prioritize and coordinate a variety of tasks and meet deadlines. Superior interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of individuals, including staff, volunteers, faculty, administrators, and donors.Excellent computer skills with demonstrated skill in using a PC computer with proficiency in Windows XP based applications and mainstream graphic design programs to create and maintain the Institute’s website and format/edit Institute publications. Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill job responsibilities. Possession of a driver's license and access to an insured vehicle to travel to off-site vendors and events.Salary Range: Competitive salary and benefits depending on qualifications and experience.
