JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Early Head Start Director (EHS) – Position is located in Missoula, Montana

WAGE/HOUR: This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $36,000 - $38,000 – benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance – 401k – vacation and personal time.

JOB SUMMARY: This person has overall responsibility for the Early Head Start program requirements. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, knowledge of and compliance with Head Start and related program regulations, planning and developing curriculum, providing resources for staff and parents, grant writing, management of revenue and expenses, technical and administrative supervision over Early Head Start staff and coordination of any contractual services.

This position reports directly to the Executive/Head Start Director and requires contact with government agencies, Parents, Board Members, Policy Council Members and Community Partners.

EDUCATION

· A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development, Business/Public Administration, Organizational Management or a related field; which includes degrees that are relevant to human services program management. At least three years experience planning and working with infants & toddlers, preferably in Head Start. Two of the three years must have been in a supervisory capacity.

· Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Proven Management Skills including budgeting, management systems,

· Demonstrated knowledge of program planning and evaluation.

· Demonstrated leadership abilities; time management, goal setting, Head Start philosophy of shared decision-making.

· Proven ability to maintain confidential information

· Proven knowledge of Infant & Toddler development.

· Proven ability to manage time and organization skills

· Proven ability to communicate with staff, families and outside agents.

· Knowledge of Family Development and Family systems

· Knowledge of home visitation and adult learning theory

· Proven ability to work well with staff, children, parents and outside agents.

· Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory techniques and practices.

· Demonstrated knowledge of Montana Employment Law

LEVEL OF INDEPENDENT DISCRETION; CONSEQUENCE OF ACTIONS:

This person exercises a high level of independence in making decisions and commitments within the parameters of corporate policies and procedures. Significant errors in judgment may endanger the health and safety of children or staff and may cause serious financial and/or legal repercussions for RHS, Inc.

SPECIAL AND/OR PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

May be required to alter scheduled hours as necessary. Requires standing, walking and bending.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

· Valid Montana Driver’s License, an acceptable driving record; and

· Must have a telephone or other means of immediate communication

Missoula Early Head Start (MEHS) is a program of Ravalli Head Start, Inc., a private not-for-profit corporation. MEHS provides a full complement of high quality Early Head Start services to 64 infants, toddlers and their families in Missoula County in Western Montana. MEHS has a budget of $706,572 and a staff of 18. Our program comprises Home-Based, Center-Based services and prenatal services to pregnant women and their families.
