SUMMARY 

The Distribution Center Manager (DC) Manager will direct and manage all warehouse-related processes, including Inbound Operations (unloading, receiving, stocking, etc.), Warehouse Operations (inventory management, material handling, picking/packing, etc.) and Outbound Operations (staging, loading, shipping, etc.). In addition, the DC Manager will be responsible for maximizing labor productivity, optimizing asset utilization and reducing overall distribution and logistics costs. The DC Manager will also analyze trends, solve problems and motivate and manage all warehouse-related employees.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

P&L and Budget Management:

·         Achieve financial objectives by managing the annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions

·         Manage key operational and financial performance metrics to drive productivity, increase labor and asset utilization, improve order fulfillment rates, achieve customer-specific SLA requirements and reduce overall distribution and logistics costs

·         Participate in annual corporate budgeting and goal-setting processes and work with production planners, plant managers and sales staff to help ensure the overall order-to-ship process is as cost-effective and efficient as possible

Shipping & Receiving:

·         Coordinate the day-to-day outbound transportation process; ensuring that the most appropriate modes of transportation are used for all outbound shipments

·         Manage the inbound receiving process: the receipting of inbound goods, reporting of shortages/overages to vendors, and coordinating the inbound inventory stocking process

Material Handling & Inventory Management:

·         Ensure that all inventory is stored in a manner that reduces pull-to-ship time, increases picks-per-hour and reduces the damaging and mishandling of goods

·         Establish and manage inventory control procedures including cycle counts and/or annual physical counts in accordance with company policy

·         Coordinate the planning and execution of the zone replenishment process

Personnel Management:

·         Manage all human resources - including full-time, part-time, and temporary labor - within budgetary constraints and work to reduce labor costs where possible

·         Ensure staffing levels are aligned with budgetary constraints, labor utilization targets and operational requirements

·         Coordinate the recruiting, hiring and training of all warehouse employees; involving corporate HR representatives as appropriate

·         Manage the overall process of training, coaching and developing warehouse supervisors and line-level employees; including the management of the annual employee performance appraisal process

Other:

·         Identify and implement process improvements and management methods to optimize workflow, maximize labor and asset utilization and decrease related total delivered product costs

·         Ensure the physical condition of the facility and related equipment is maintained properly by inspecting and mainlining equipment as required by vendor contract or corporate policy and issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement as appropriate

·         Ensure the distribution center meets all appropriate safety and security regulations, policies and practices

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

·         Bachelors Degree concentrating in Operations Management, Supply Chain or General Business preferred

·         Fifteen years of relevant experience; with at least 5 years experience in managing a large-scale distribution center

·         Proven experience in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures

·         Prior experience in budget preparation and P&L management required

·         Experienced in purchasing, forecasting, freight, and transportation negotiation strongly preferred

·         Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems required
